Bad MPG

Were you able to manually calculate the fuel economy from your first tank of fuel? I wonder if the computer's calculations are off and need to be reset? As previously mentioned, idle time, wether stopped at a light or utilizing the remote start feature brings fuel economy down fairly quickly. My first step would be to run a couple manual calculations.

Yeah unfortunately it gave me 8.7MPG on a new tank of gas. Very disappointing

Let's just assume for a second something is off- because no one is getting that bad of mileage. The only way his vehicle would be getting that kind of MPG would be either:
A. His MPG calculator was off by about double..
B. His entire two tanks has been spent at the dragstrip.
C. There is a mechanical problem causing his injectors to run doubly rich mixtures
D. He has some type of driveline restriction/tight engine tolerances, etc. that he requires twice as much fuel as everyone else.
E. His commute is continuous stop-and-go traffic.

A. Possible, but doubtful- of course he claims he reset everything and then re-checked manually on his "new tank of gas"
B. He left that part out
C. The ECU would light up with injector and cat codes which are not mentioned.
D. Possible, but doubtful.
E. His Auto/SS doesn't work? And he doesn't seem to know how to turn if on/off?

If, in fact sir, your mileage is that bad, I suggest rather than just venting on this forum you seek immediate attention at your local Ford dealership to make them aware of the situation. Anyone else's Troll-dar tingling?

Yeah, mileage like that is almost beyond belief. Are you sure there isn't a puddle of fuel under the vehicle?

Man I wish I was trolling. Look how many miles it says until empty. I will take it to the dealership soon.

Maybe you got the Mach-E's programming and it's trying to read MPGe.

Break it in. Check tire pressure. I’ve never seen below 17 in my 22 ST and that was in the cold of the winter ...

The lowest I got was when it was brand new and it showed some crazy low numbers.

After that, the lowest I've seen is 19.9 mpg and the highest 20.9 mpg.

The worst I ever get is slow stop and go with long idle time and a/c on. It can average 12.5 to 14 mpg. But at 55-65, cruise with 92 octane, I get over 25 mpg. My engine start stop seems to be permanently disabled since I had dealer warranty repairs to various electronic bugs with trans settings, backup camera and such. My overall mpg with most driving on 35 mph boulevards is 18.0 after 15,000 miles on my 2020.

Hope you get it figured out. Window Sticker says 20 mpg Combined (18 mpg City and 24 mpg Highway).

That's exactly what I'm getting, and it's exactly what you should be getting.

The vehicle is majority city driving. School drop offs, minor errands. But I am just in disbelief. 80 miles is half tank. I put 91 gas.

Somethings going on. Mine is the worst I've seen on here and I average like 16.5.. very short trips to work.

When I take longer trips.. it jumps up drastically.. I average around 22-24 when I take decent long highway/country road trips.

I would take it in and have it checked it out.

I have noticed on mine that the mileage QUICKLY deteriorates if you spend a lot of idle time.
Only have 300 miles, and am on my second tank of gas, so it doesn't really concern me yet.

Agreed. My Speed3's mileage went south pretty quickly if I idled it on really cold mornings (the only time I EVER let it sit and "warm up")

I would assume the engine stop start is beneficial. For me I think it is a negative. I don’t think I can turn it off on mine.

Definitely a negative. The pennies "saved" on fuel will be eaten up by battery and starter replacements.

You have to manually turn it off every time you start the vehicle and no option to keep it turned off indefinitely, which is annoying (first world problems).

There still may be a ForScan option. I plan to look into that (as well as eliminating the double-honk, enabling "fogs as cornering lamps", making the panic button require two presses, etc., etc).

According to every experience I've read on this site relating to disabling ASS through ForScan, it cannot be done permanently. It can be disabled via a tuner through the ECU, or an add-on "eliminator" circuit. It seems that the coding for it is in the ECU, not the other body control modules that can be accessed via ForScan.

My opinion is you have less than 500 miles on the vehicle. Get through a couple fill ups and things will change.

Just re-read the thread and if you really have done a manual calculation then your truck is broken.

You aren't getting out of the vehicle and noticing your brakes, or one of them being exceptionally hot? Even if a brake is dragging I couldn't imagine it causing you to get 8mpg though so its hard to say.

Something is definitely off, that shit would be in the shop for me because 8mpg wouldn't work for me. The dealer cant just say, oh we looked at it and everything is fine either. Something is way off like you have a supercharged 1960's 427 under the hood.

Something is very very wrong with your vehicle and it needs to be taken into your dealer ASAP. There is severe friction occuring somewhere in your driveline (anything wrong with the engine would be throwing codes left and right), you are severely out of alignment, or a brake is dragging and continuing to drive this vehicle is only going to make those things worse. Even when mine was BRAND new (< 20 miles on the odometer), I still got 16+mpg. 8 is beyond belief. Don't leave the dealership until they either find the issue and correct it, or they give you a new Explorer.
