I see a lot of comments about the exhaust sound coming through the speakers? Is that for real? If so, can it be turned off? Seems cheesy to me. I’m used to real V8 Mustang sound, which I know won’t happen, but sure don’t want any fake sound coming through my speakers.

Unfortunately, YES. The sound does come from the speakers. The Ford Focus RS even has them coming from the speakers too. And I do not know of an easy way to turn it off. But, if you put a nice exhaust on your Explorer ST, it should sound close to what you do have coming out of the speakers!

Lots of info on the web about it. And It can be turned off - you need FORScan to do it on your own or the dealer can take care of it with IDS. One of the first things I did on mine - much more pleasant.

Does the sound always come from the speakers, or only specific modes (i.e. sport)?

Have not had much driving time in mine yet so no opinions at this point from me.

Did you end up using FORScan or did you ask the dealer to remove the sound? If it's the latter, how did you go about getting them to do it?

It may be off in Sport mode, but I don't recall. It was on in all other modes though, even with the stereo off.

I used FORScan. It's the same code as the F-150 in the APIM "as-built" section. You change the '4' to '0':

Doing some research on this FORScan app. What else is this used for? This is all new to me. Will this affect the warranty? Seems like you can do a lot of cool stuff.

The fake sound comes from the speakers in NORMAL mode but is much more pronounced in SPORT mode. ECO mode seems to be the quietest mode I've driven thus far. As for the other modes, haven't used them yet.

Hey guys I downloaded the FORScan program. My tuner cam with a obd2 connector can I just use that from my laptop to the truck?? I would like to turn off the speaker sound... preferably without blowing up the computers haha

Go to the links I posted - all the info is there. Standard OBD cords won't work.

Delivered to the front door and a quick check to ensure all parts were mint. Borla S-Type (Black Exhaust tips) was installed within 3 hours of being delivered. Had the mechanics ready because I couldn't wait. They made sure it was level because I told them it was a pet peeve of mine. It was just easier and they did get work on the catback for my older Ford Focus ST. Felt like Christmas! Now I can't get in it without remote starting every time.

Planning on doing a video still. Sorry for the delay. View attachment 602 View attachment 603
What shop did you take it to and what was the cost?

The mechanics work out of the Shell Station @ 8511 Oxon Hill Rd, Fort Washington, MD 20744. These guys have always done a great job. They even installed some odd-ball ideas I had found online: RALLY LIGHTS in the grille (see attached) of my previous vehicle: 2013 Ford Focus ST.

Good guys that just make it work they way you want. The Borla installation was a bit expensive, $300, but I'm a stickler to making sure the pipes are even/level. The mechanic said he put a leveler on the pipes to be sure. :ROFLMAO:

Someone share this link previously...

Borla's different SOUNDS between STANDARD vs TOURING vs S-TYPE vs ATAK (start at time: 7:43) Unfortunately, not on an Explorer St.
Even though not on an explorer, this was helpful!
