BOV or VTA mod?

Has anyone stumbled across a viable BOV or legit VTA mod for the ST yet? I want some audible turbo noise.

Maybe try an open cone filter (no air box)? That gives the compressor whistle in the pickups. I wouldn’t do a VTA with MAF (vs MAS) since it will run rich (adding fuel where it thinks there is air) and soot will build-up.

I would wait for a company to release an intake, I'm sure that will make it louder. I've seen a couple of F150 guys do the VTA mod but it looks horrible.

I haven’t really heard anything negative from a vta mod on any platform. It’s just for the sound. Is there any proof of side effects or performance loss from the vta mod?
On another note, an open air box cone filter actually does have negative performance effects as it’s bringing in hot engine bay air. Factory air boxes actually flow quite well and bring in cooler outside air. Without a tune, an intake is pretty much null and void in my opinion.

I either want to do the vta mod (it’s under the hood, I can make it look factory) or an actual aftermarket blow off valve. I’m also having a hard time locating the blow off valve in the first place

Most of the walnut blasting jobs we did were for VTA on factory MAF or DIY cone filters that changed the MAF readings. Usually manifests as hesitation or timing loss at WOT. YMMV

Looked like the MAF in my Mustang, but I’ll concede I haven’t had it apart and it may very well have a MAS. Just a word of caution to make sure it is properly engineered to maintain accurate AF ratio readings.

I’m definitely not claiming to know how these vehicles are built, and I know very little about turbo application. But if an after market unit can be installed to vent to atmosphere, why can’t the oem unit do the same? Along with this mod being done on all generations of ecoboost motors and on different platforms as well. Just a thought.

I just read that older gen explorers with obviously a different ecoboost motor monitor air speed/volume at the manifold and not on the intake like in a MAF. Could be different for our new ST’s.

If you do a VTA DIY to make it look factory. Could you do a video? I too would like to do that.

I’ve done the VTA mod and made a tutorial about it. It’s super simple and cheap and does its job of just making noise. Pictures are included but no video. I don’t plan I’m making a video as I’m also going thru the buy back process (covid 19 is slowing it down).
