Brakes squealing on brand new 2022

Took delivery of my 22 ST last month and ever since i got it the brakes have been squealing. At first i thought it might just be some brake dust and it will probably go away after a week or so, but nope, they are squeaking in full effect now

I think I may have to take it to the dealer to have them look at the brakes… But was just wondering if anyone else had the same issue. Thanks!

Saw a lot of weird things with brakes, i'm sure many here have. Have them take a look and make sure a pad isn't seated incorrectly or has mineral build up from sitting on a truck/in the lot. Most likely something really simple as long as you don't feel any pedal issues.

Is yours during braking only or do you get squeeling sometimes even when not braking? I once had a small stone trapped between the heat shield and the rotor that was making squeeling noises. I manually pushed back on the heatshield and the stone fell out to my amazement.

Yeah, my husband mentioned mineral build up. And nope, no pedal issues. Maybe i’ll just take it in at this point.. the squealing is driving me nuts

I only hear the squealing when i brake thanks for the tip!

I believe all ST models, especially those with the performance pack and/or brake package squeak when you initially apply the brakes. At the ST SUV event, every ST did this during the drive events. My does this as well.

Really good brakes, like the ST has, will make some noise. If it bothers you too much ask the dealer to put the shit brakes on it for you. Or maybe just wash the brake dust off with high pressure water. The squealing is caused by the metallic dust from the pad/disc interface.

Take a look at your rotors as best as you can and see if there is any odd scoring on them. If nothing is out of the ordinary, then make a few hard stops in reverse. This may just clean them up enough to remove the squealing. If still no improvement I would have the service dept look them over.

There’s the Street Pack…which you obviously have and a pad “upgrade” package called the Performance Pack. The PP pads are well documented to squeak a lot…many people have had them swapped out for the regular SP pads to get rid of it.

Well…the Performance Pack pads have black backing plates. That was the easy way to tell if the dealer installed them in the early days when the cars shipped with the pads in a box and the dealership has to install them.

That's interesting. Ford lists 3 front brake pads for the ST, standard, police high series and performance. Standard are the cheapest in price and performance are the most expensive ones. As far as i can tell the standard and police have black shims and the performance have the silver shim. Is Ford saying that the police high series are actually the performance pack pads? I'm going to put a call in to my Ford parts rep tomorrow and find out more.

This was my very first question to myself when I read the OP. Pad material matters greatly.

This is Performance Pack pads. Not a great pic but it’s from someone who bought those pads and had them installed. You can clearly tell they have a black backer.

I guess technically they’re all black, the silver part is a stainless shim that’s used on the Street Pack pads.
