Hello, I have non street package car and I purchased a set of takeoff street package calipers/brackets. I also have a set of powerstop z36 rotors and pads I'm installing. I just wanted the red brakes and less dust is why I'm swapping. I'm aware I need to put the car into brake maintenance mode. A little nervous as some people say they can't get it out of maintenance mode. Is this something forscan can't turn off if for some reason I'm not able to the normal way? Also, are there any other tips/pointers? First time doing brakes on a vehicle with electric parking brake. I assume I would bleed the brakes while still in maintenance mode. Thank you!

Put it into service mode, do all of your work then kick it out. If it gets hung like some have you can easily force it out with Forscan so don’t panic.

Great. So I will also bleed the brakes while in service mode? The service manual I found got me a little confused.

Also, I'm doing some thinking. If the person I got these from didn't put their car into maintenance mode before removing, could that give me trouble?

Possible but only if he ripped them off with the brake on and damaged something. If the brake is off and he just removed the bolts and pulled the caliper out, it’s hard to break something.

I actually spoke with the person I purchased from and he said he put the vehicle in maintenance mode before removing. It was so long ago he did it that he forgot the process of installation though.

For the brake bleeding, am I able to use the old school 2 person method? This is how I've always done brakes. I've heard some say that it doesn't work on this?
I also just watched Houston Speed Freaks YouTube video when he installed gt500 calipers. He didn't put it in maintenance mode at lol, but instead disconnected the battery. He said what the computer doesn't know wont hurt it and bled the brakes the old school way then reconnected the battery. Is this a wrong approach? Could anything get damaged?

2 person method works great.

Once they’re on it’s a normal bleed process. I use a vacuum bleeder myself but that’s just because we have on at work for our fleet trucks.

Thanks guys. Really appreciate the feedback. I'm not trying to overcomplicate this, I've just never dealt with a car with this much electronics and I'm just wanting to make sure I'm doing it right before getting into it.

When bleeding the brakes, I would do this out of service mode, correct?

I think if you unplug the battery you can bypass maintenance mode altogether. At least that’s what Houston Speeds Freaks said in one of their videos.

That’s if you’re working on the front brakes. You need it for the rear because that’s what retracts the Pistons and also sets the correct pad height for the emergency break when you take it out out of maintenance mode.

That would make sense.

So if installing new rear calipers, is maintenance mode necessary since the pistons are already fully retracted?

You can release the parking brakes and disconnected the battery from the car. Block the front wheels.

I did use a 12v power probe to unscrew the parking brakes from the new red brakes caliper ( new to me, bought used from this forum).

The front brake shield will work just fine.

I remove the rear brake shield. Hammer flat and reinstalled. But has to make a new hole for the bottom bolt.

Awesome, thank you. Looks great. I was actually fortunate enough to get the dust shields too. The person I purchased from upgraded to a big brake kit.

The rear shield can not removes unless you remove the rear hub.

I would cut a slit at the picture below.

Awesome. I figured that. The ones I have actually have a slit cut through them. Thank you.
