Title pretty much says it all. Which brand of oil filter have you settled on?

I'm an admitted Amsoil fanboy and dealer so I will be using them.

For an on the shelf, paper element oil filter I generally recommend Wix if Amsoil doesnt have a filter. Wix is the OEM for a bunch of manufacturers.

For a long time Amsoil(Baldwin/Hastings is their manufacturer) was one of the only suppliers that offered a synthetic element filter, not paper element. I believe this has changed and a few other companies are offering synthetic elements now also.

I will add that i have used Mobil 1 filters, AC Delco(I believe made by either Wix or Fram), K&N, Harley(probably also Wix or Fram), Mann and probably at least a handful of others. Never REALLY had any issues with any of them. If you want some in depth analysis head over to BITOG and see if somebody has taken apart one you are interested in. Most of the big makers have been disassembled and compared.

I see this is an old thread but a few years have gone by and I wonder if there is more input. I've been using Motorcraft but I wonder if some of the others are just as good or better. I used to always use a Mobil1 filter with Mobil1 oil but since getting the ST I've just gone with MC. I checked RockAuto and they list the Fram Ultra-Synthetic as a premium filter and BITOG says their cartidge filters are good. I know some consider Fram as low grade though. I've never used them so I don't know. There are so many videos on YouTube that you can't really learn anything because they are all different! What are you using for an oil filter?

The higher end Frams are fine. They used to use cardboard glued end caps that didn’t like hot wet oil and were a disaster waiting to happen. For my explorer I have run a mobile 1 and a Mann. I think so long as you choose a reputable name with synthetic media you are GTG.

I pretty much stick to a Motorcraft FL500S (I installed a spin-on adapter a year or two ago because I hated the cartridge filter), as an alternative maybe a Wix if I had to. That and a decent synthetic oil (been Mobil since the first oil change since that’s what the dealership parts guy told me Ford uses for a synthetic (and it was good enough for a factory fill on Corvettes for years, maybe still is?). I change oil every 8000km/5000mi or roughly every 2~ months so I’m satisfied with an average oil filter and not a high dollar one.

155,190km (96,430mi) and counting, still running smooth.
