Cold Air Intake status?

I know I've heard here and there, that a few companies are working on intake options, and I've even heard of ST owners who were guinea pigs for them. Are there any updates out there for when we might realistically get even a sliver of information on a time frame, or at the least a design direction on what any of the companies intend to do? How much of the piping they intend to replace, where the filters will be mounted, etc?

I have to imagine there is some info out there.

I don't think there is much incentive. I've moved on to working on upgrading other aspects of the air/fuel setup. The cost/benefit just isn't there for this vehicle. The stock system is REALLY good and to make any meaningful improvements would require extensive replacement of stock piping... which means $$$ that most consumers won't want to shell out.

I am curious, on what basis have you tested and proven that the cost/benefit really isn't there for this vehicle? You've replaced the stock system with an aftermarket one and done flow and dyno testing to prove your hypothesis? All these replies, far as i can tell, are nothing more than opinions. And as I said, I am aware that there are vendors working on intakes currently.

Whoa there boss... its Friday. We can take things down a notch. I was just trying to throw an idea out about why it has taken so long for any CAI solutions to come out. Perhaps the manufacturers are having trouble putting together a package that makes financial sense for them. For example, K&N is on record as saying they won't build anything that doesn't actually improve the performance of the vehicle.

As per my other point, the tuners and the big power boys have both stated that intake is not the bottleneck for this truck and a CAI isn't necessary unless you want to start doing stuff with the turbos. Was just relaying info I've seen and heard and trying to be helpful.

Don't know what all the dramatics are for, I'm simply replying to your statement. I have yet to see any "big power boys" whatever that means, prove anything. I have seen tons of conjecture and opinions about what people think. And again, I stated, I know K&N, for example, and aFE, I believe, are already prototype in testing.

Actually...K&N has a finished product in testing right now per my convo with a rep.
And there’s definitely power to be had...dyno testing has shown ~15+ hp gain by running an open box. Time will tell what we get but there’s definitely things in the works.

I took my truck to the dyno in December to re tune after adding cr performance stage 5 turbos and down pipes. While tuning Adam must have saw some numbers he didn’t like on the data logs. He asked me to open up the air box on truck and direct it at the fan in front of the dyno. The truck instantly picked up 10hp. There was more power to be had with some fine tuning but there was no point as I obviously couldn’t drive home like that lol.
Most likely I will have a custom air box made in the spring u less someone releases one before that. Ideally the new one replaces the piping all the way down to the turbos

Thats fantastic news.

This little bit... "K&N is on record as saying they won't build anything that doesn't actually improve the performance of the vehicle" ....was in reference to why its taken so long--they would wait until they had something that actually did something... it wasn't meant to imply they would do nothing. my apologies if it came across that way.

I'd rather see 0-60 or 1/4mi times than dyno numbers of a vehicle not moving, with the hood up..

It's good to hear there is at least a possibility of performance gains to be had, and also good to know there might be products closing in on production. I know most people consider an intake worthless regardless, but if nothing else, I'm sure once we get aftermarket piping kits and CAIs, the engine sound will be that much more aggressive sounding.

I am bringing my car back to the same place that did my exhaust for a custom intake, I am planning on a dyno after but I don’t want to pay the money to do it again before unless we want to start a go fund me lol. I’m getting 3.9 consistently as is 0-60. I’m getting upgraded intercooler piping and intake done and he will offer the intake for sale after I’m sure similar to the downpipes. More to come!

That’s where I’m at too...I can crack off low 3.90’s on 93 like clockwork. Looking forward to seeing what they come up with...it’s such a convoluted mess in there.

I agree with that. I'm hoping they take advantage of the grill snorkel and move the filter over to the passenger side into that massive open space.

That snorkel or at least the inlet is quite well designed. With it sealed up to the front end in a high pressure area it would make a lot of sense to retain the function of it.

im getting that along with intercooler piping done at same time so we’ll see! The best valid time I have is 3.91. I got 3.84 on what I thought was perfect road but came back invalid with a slope of -1.5% grrr

nice times guys! I'm still in shock that nobody has come out with a CAI yet either. I have an AFE drop in filter on order as Adam at ZFG indicated it would be worthwhile to put in prior to tuning, but the drop-in is on back order so i'm tempted to cancel it and wait for a legit CAI if something is coming in the near future. Really want to get the ZFG tune asap though so who knows if i can even wait long enough
