I'm not so sure - their food and housing are covered, free health care, no requirement to work. Sounds like a sweet deal.
But wait ... oh, yeah - THEY DESERVE IT.

Here's my boy Gotti, he turns 2 at the end of August. Had him since he was 8 weeks old, raised with my kids 3 year old and 5 year old. Super protective of them and the family, he's basically like my 2nd shadow everywhere I go around the house lol
Here, we have both. Seven cats & five dogs, plus an assortment of raccoons, possums, turkeys, deer, hawks & armadillos. The count has been as high as 25 of the more conventional varmint population.

So little - snack here, pets and scruffles there. Miss Rosie is as cold-natured as I. Winters in Florida can be brutal. We can tell when she's cold, she gets this "poor miserable me" look. Drop a blanket or towel over her and we get one long dog-sigh and she fades right away.
I think it's how they deal with smaller animals - kittens, puppies, etc., that defines them. We've had many, many big dogs who were instinctively gentle with tiny creatures - kittens who were terrified at all the other animals in the house but learned that big, hulking, intimidating critter held no malice or ill-feelings and in fact made a pretty good place to nap on a cold morning.
Frankie was being neglected and was still a sociable boy. Always ready for pets and scratches. He was later rescued and is now living the life of Riley in Georgia. He likes kids and gives rides often. I sure miss him, but I'm glad he's OK.
