I am thinking about having the cross brace on my ST powder coated. Is it ok to take this off long enough to bring it to be done?

The strut tower brace? It’s just a cosmetic piece…you don’t need it at all.

That’s what I thought but wanted to be sure. Thanks!

So am I to understand that a strut brace does nothing for the suspension/handling?
Doesn't the ST come stock with them or is that an upgrade?

It comes stock as a cosmetic piece.

That is kind of funny. They install extra weight that is only seen with the hood open, but remove a structural bolt to save money. It must serve some purpose, even if only when the vehicle is pushed to the limits.

It does not. The real bracing is under the plastic shrouds along the cowl.

It may add stiffness, but it is rare to be able to feel any changes with one -- on any car. It is noticeable on a Miata because the dash rattle is markedly reduced but I'd be hard pressed to notice any handling benefit.

Vehicle manufacturers are very weight conscious, so I really do not see them adding an engine bay part for cosmetic reasons. It likely only comes into play under heavy loading and does not normally carry any load.

It's just because if it weren't there, someone would bitch.

My thoughts here
