Different Exhaust Option

Maybe because I haven’t heard any legit exhaust systems on an ST in person or maybe my expectation are too high since I’m used to my Mustang but I feel like the exhaust options on the market right now sound mediocre at best.

I have a Roush active cat back exhaust on my ‘15 GT and I love the way it sounds. I know I won’t get the same sound from the ST since it’s a V6 but would I be able to just use Roush’s mufflers and just custom fit the rest?

In my opinion, "mediocre" is an appropriate description. Having said that I don't think anything you do to a V6 exhaust (Roush or anything else) on an Explorer is going to give you that beyond "mediocre" that you seek having driven a V8 with a nice system.

I really like my Thermal exhaust and I would recommend it, having said that, my expectation is lower because of the V6 but it's as good as I've heard.

I'll be interested to read about your experience should you give the Roush mufflers a try.

Ironically, Roush exhaust systems have historically been built by Borla…it would suck to do all that work just to wind up with an S or Atak system. lol

I think I remember hearing that. I’m glad you mentioned it. I’ll do a little more research on Borla’s options before doing anything drastic with Roush.

IMO, the Thermal system is excellent!
Fair price, quality, and the best I have heard from all the other options.
I have had mine on for 15k miles with zero problems.
