Down sizing from stock 21" wheel to 20"

Hi everyone, I am planning on picking up a set of 20 x 9" rims with a +35 offset & pairing up with 295/45/20 Pirelli's. I have a couple questions, would there be any clearance issues between the red performance calipers and the rims & with the tires being almost an inch wider than stock, do you think they would rub? Appreciate any feedback.

Ideally you’d be looking at a 10 or 10.5” wide wheel at +30 offset. 9” +35 is just a bad fit if you’re spending the money to go aftermarket.

I'm not sure about the caliper clearance but isn't a 295 a little wide for a 9" rim?

It’s not about wheel width, it’s about caliper clearance. A 295/45r20 is a little wide on an 9” wheel, I’d bump up wheel width to 10” or 10.5”.

You're fine with the Street Pack brakes. Even Police Interceptor rims fit over those. I have aftermarket 20s and plenty of clearance around my GT350 brakes.

It’s all about spoke clearance and barrel clearance. Different production methods effect brake clearance.

Quick question if I may, what wheels did you have before the GT350 Brembos? I want to go that route, but can't find information on clearance on the stock 20" machine finished wheels. I have the spacers already and the caliper brackets.

There’s no blanket answer for that. The style of spoke can easily make or break fitment.

Ok, good to know, so that probably wouldn't sit flush with the fender then.

Do you have just the front GT350 brakes? If so, how's the nose dive?

Very true. I was giving a simplistic answer that 20" diameter can fit some pretty larger diameter brakes. When going with fat multi-piston calipers you have to do your research to make sure they fit with your spoke design.

I have RTR Tech 5 wheels. These are technically S550/S650 Mustang wheels with caliper clearance in mind for the design. Spokes are quite convex. Keep in mind GT350 calipers are very wide, wider than any of the other BBK's for these Explorers IIRC. So you'll definitely have to check the spoke design for clearance. I know they won't fit under the factory 20's without a large spacer, and even then I'm not sure about barrel clearance. Here is a link to the only template I could find: SVE Shelby GT350 Caliper & Rotor Adapter Bracket Kit | 15-23 Mustang . Ignore the product, just look under FITMENT for the PDF template.

It's fine, stops great, not pulling any stoppies! I'd prefer a little less if I was hitting twisty challenging roads more often, but my daily commute doesn't include Angeles Crest Highway. Yes a balanced kit like a front/rear Superforged or Rotora is better, but it's totally fine especially for the price.

If you are planning to put the Shelby GT350 brakes on, I would go an extra 5mm on the offset. A member with 20x10.5 wheels on a +35mm offset had to use a 10mm spacer to make them fit. 30mm would most likely clear those brakes but the 25mm creates an ever-so-slightly more aggressive look.

Again, that is down to the spoke design. My 20x9.5, +33 wheels clear just fine. But my RTR wheels were designed with big brake caliper clearance in mind.

Spoke/face design has a lot more to do with brake clearance than 5mm offset. That’s why good wheel and brake companies both have templates available to check clearances.
