Those of you that have installed new downpipes, do you have any tips, tricks or advice for a shade tree mechanic?

My guy called his friend that works at Ford and they told him to unscrew a few bolts and actually drop the transmission a few inches and it’s way easier to access. He did it that way and said it wasn’t too bad. I have no idea what I’m talking about so I can ask for more details :)

Well after this^^^
I couldn't stand that (only) chrome staring at me. Sorta like the dealer sticker.

So I had some high heat black paint......

Wiped the tips down with alcohol, sprayed them black.
I feel so much more comfortable now.
And, they don't look bad.

Did it to my Ram 5 years ago(5"tips) and still look good.

I get a chance I'll get a pic.

I'm a tightwad. Guess you figured that out:)

Hey Jim, the posters above are referring to removal/replacement of the downpipes. These are the section of the exhaust system which contain the catalytic converters and are in between the turbos and the mid mounted muffler. THOSE are a huge PITA to replace/remove. you are referring to the exhaust tips--yes, those being chrome was a stupid choice on a vehicle that has "blacked out" other elements. please let us know how the high temp paint holds up over the top of the chrome plating though--that would be a good experiment.

Ok, gotcha.

But as long as I'm in here.
Here is what the heat paint looks like.
No more blinding chrome ;)
