The original design/part broke easily. It was redesigned, the new one will fit the original mount but isn't supposed to be as vulnerable to someone who slides off of the seat.
Just to confirm, the redesign is MB5Z-7862187-EC correct?

I'm sorry, I didn't save the part number. I only know the one I received was a different part # than the OE product. I was told it was a redesigned product. I have no doubt that in this amount of time the part number would be updated in Ford's parts list.

Explorer driver seat trrim.jpg My wife's 2020 Explorer's driver's seat trim just broke last week. I drilled a couple small holes in the front of the plastic trim and put a couple small bolts, washers and nuts thru the steel slotted area on lower seat frame. Seems pretty solid and with all the issues people are having I don't know if it would make sense to replace the piece if it's a recurring problem. I see the part on E Bay for about $40.

Dealer replaced ours about two years ago and it is still in good shape. Same design as the original. If you look at later model years, Ford did away with the front trim panel so that there is no longer pressure being put on the panel, which causes it to break when getting in and out of the vehicle.
