Fluids Change - Need clarification

Hey Folks,

I have searched for the last hour on this and keep getting conflicting information.

Trans fluid - Some threads say you need 10 quarts, some 12, etc. Let's say my fluid has never been changed at 52K miles, how many quarts do I need to buy to drain and refill?

Front/Rear diff - I am seeing 2-3 quarts for the front diff, and 4-5 quarts for the rear diff of two different fluids. Can someone clarify how many for the front and rear?

I am buying all Amsoil, and right now for fluids based on the conflicting info, I am going to spend well over $300 on fluids.

Want to be sure of what I need so I don't overspend.

The trans will need 8.5qts for a simple drain/filter/fill. More if you spin it over while draining to get more fluid out. Don't do that…

Front diff needs 0.8qts, rear diff needs 2.0qts, transfer case needs 1.1qt.

Front diff capaity is 0.6 qt so just buy a quart (it's expensive).
Transfer case: Buy 2 qts.
Rear differential: Buy 2 qts.
Trans: you may only spill 6 qts but Mercon ULV is not commonly found so I would have extra on hand. There are also synthetic aftermarket ULV oils available. Not sure what Amsoil equivalents are out there or if they are any that are OE spec.

Transfer Case: Motorcraft® MERCON® LV Automatic Transmission -AMERCON® LV 1.1Qt

Rear differential: Motorcraft® SAE 75W-85 Premium Synthetic Hypoid Gear Lubricant 1.9qt

Front diff: 75/90 Severe Gear - 2 quarts
Rear diff: 75./140 severe gear - 2 quarts

Motorcraft fluids are about $260 on Amazon.

That includes the one I missed, which is the XL-12 transfer case fluid.

You need 2 qts of the 75W85 and only one qt of the 75W140.

Mercon ULV is not synthetic. Triax ULV or Valvoline ULV (both synthetic) are what I've been going with lately.

Must use something that meets spec. I used motorcraft ULV first change then switched to LiquiMoly Top Tec 1850. Fully synthetic and officially meets spec. Always liked Valvoline too but got a deal.

Bought all motorocraft from a local dealer. Came out to $220 for everything.

How was Valvoline? It’s so cheap compared to motocraft. $9 compared to $31 for a quart (rear diff)

I would not hesitate to use their full synthetic gear oil. I ran it in my trucks at my business for 30 years.

Should be fine. I used Redline 75w90 synthetic for the rear diff just because that's what i already had.

Not really. Shifted pretty good with the tune and I change it more frequently than most. I think it’s more about fresh fluid than which fluid a song as synthetic and meets spec.
