Looking great so far. Hopefully you love the sound. Have you used the utopia line before?

Yes, several times including in past competition systems. I have no doubt these will shine after break in and a re-tune. I was trying to avoid the cost…but I guess I knew deep down I’d move to these.

The 8’s exposed some serious rattles in the outer door cladding…that went away today with a combination of CCF, CLD, Tessa tape and butyl rope. AAECD2B4-ECFF-49EB-BB8C-CE7359BF78A3.jpeg 033129C6-47DC-4AFB-A986-6F73B26B3EF0.jpeg 18395A4B-3740-446E-B30A-1552EAA77731.jpeg

And those B&O logos had to go…my friend with the sign shop made me some replacements with the Focal logo. AB4FE9D6-7201-4A85-8CCD-7091DEF2CF48.jpeg 387F664F-3080-4817-BD54-98DA3C1EDABE.jpeg

I'll say this....although I'm deaf in one ear and wouldn't appreciate the acoustics, your attention to detail and workmanship are top notch!

Hell my tinnitus is so bad I can’t hear most of the upper frequencies myself. lol
That’s why I need help tuning…I need someone that can hear everything.

Same here! Last time I got tested I was 50+% gone in the upper frequencies. Unfortunantly it's only my left ear, so I still have to listen to the complaints from the passenger seat..

I was torn for a while on what to do to power this 2nd sub. The single Pro 1/10 won’t cut it and I couldn’t get excited about adding a 2nd one since I didn’t wanna deal with separate enclosures and getting the pair of amps set exactly the same. So…I got a Zero 3 instead. 1850 at 2ohm…that’ll do.
I also have to find time after the 1st to build out the sail panels for the Utopia TBM tweeters.
This is fun but it’s starting to get a little spendy. lol 995068CF-0716-4518-8838-603B881954F0.jpeg

Those speakers look sexy.

On a side note, are Caps still a thing or was that only a thing in the 90's the last time I built a system? I remember I had a 1/2 farad cap connected to my 600 watt amp that ran my 2 10" MTX subs. Just curious, I haven't been into the car audio game in a long time

Not really…and not for an SQ system. Good wiring, a good battery and a big enough alternator are all that’s needed.

Forgot about these I picked up last week.
Focal Utopia TBM tweeters…the final big piece to the new puzzle. These will be glassed into the sail panels.

The system looks slick. I need to do some reading up now on SQ systems. What format are you running your songs to get the best quality? Straight CD or downloaded on a big HD tucked away in the vehicle?

Tidal masters via iPhone. It’s just as good as anything short of music players that cost a couple grand.

Quick question about your tweeter setup. How did you mount either set? I have my eye on a set of alpine type x, Karmas or maybe audio frogs. I was told that the type x tweeter won't fit. I looked though your build and didn't see a good photo of the tweeter installed from the back. Also how much of a PITA was it to run the wiring to the doors, Ive heard that sucks as well.

I cut out all of the oem tweeter mount for the TKMX’s and siliconed them into place. This happens more than most installers will admit. lol
The TBM’s will be glassed into the sail panels.
And you were told the truth…running wires into the doors sucks. Running 3X 12 gauge wires was one of the worst ideas I’ve ever had.

LOL, I saw your l post about the speaker wire and that was one of the reasons I asked. I'm still up in the air about equipment but I think I have it down to one or two total setups, hell I don't even have the st on order yet. I'm still dealing with the dealer with my mustang trade and now a huge snowstorm...thanks for the info. I can't wait to see what the new setup is going to look like.

I was drawing a blank when I comes to mounting the tweeters in the sail panels…they’re tiny and these tweeters aren’t so I ran by a friends shop and he had this idea…so I went by another friends shop and we played with his laser for a little bit. 3589084B-066E-4A67-B058-C0A7E5511EEC.jpeg 18340DB7-847F-4B2C-A6AA-483F208923DA.jpeg
