We’re still making some needed changes and just didn’t have time to get everything done…still didn’t do bad in the competition lanes today. Roughly 15 cars in each class…2nd in IASCA and 3rd in MASQ. Didn’t place with EMMA but I got docked hard for not having my install book with me which they require. All in all a good day…

And I’m loving the new power supply from XS Power…held voltage steady at 14+ all day long.

Congrats man! Just out of curiosity, where you the only ST at the competition and how much better did the finishers ahead of you do? Do you have a lot of work to do or were you close?

Definitely the only ST. Points were pretty close but they always are at this level. The things I need to address have been underway just didn’t have enough time to wrap everything up so I left it alone. I’ll be ready for Finals in Missouri in October though. I started late and only have enough points to compete with 2 of the 4 sanctioning bodies but they’ll all be there so we’re gonna see where she stacks up against the best of the best.

What do IASCA and MASQ stand for and what is the difference? What are the other two sanctioning bodies? How does competing in each of the 4 differ or is similar? I know nothing of this area and find it incredibly interesting... I would love to attend an event. Do SUVs do well in this sort of competition or do sedans usually perform better due to cabin volume?

IASCA is International Auto Sound Challenge Association.
MECA is Mobile Electronics Competition Association
EMMA is European Mobile Media Association
MASQ is Mobile Audio Sound Quality

Judging is similar with small differences between them, mostly in what they think is most important and how they award points when judging because of it. Some people have tunes for each Org…I just go to have fun so I don’t do all that. Any vehicle can do well…it’s all about the quality of the install and the tune to bring it all together.

By ear. Each Org has their own judging tracks they use. We all have them also so we can listen for what they’re listening for also to prep.
You can enter a separate class for install if you want but I never have. EMMA requires a build log book for full points…I’m pretty lazy when it comes to that.

Since it’s technically part of the audio portion of the show…
I had a buddy with a waterjet cut me out a base and display mounting bracket from 3/16” 6061 aluminum today. I’ll anneal and bend the bracket to mount it all up. It’ll sit on rubber feet also. Didn’t wanna just throw around a rather expensive power supply.

Working on my power supply base…need to weld aluminum and of course the argon bottle is basically empty. So…today I was a grinder more than I was a welder. lol

Not bad for no gas. Mig on aluminum can be tricky at times for good looking welds but without gas its practically impossible…for me anyhow.

The bottle was effectively empty. lol
I could barely hear any gas flowing but it got me through this little project. If it was something that needed to be pretty I would have called for a new bottle.

The boredom project continues.
Everything test fit with stainless cap screws and female threaded rubber feet for the base. Once my bigger Anderson plugs and 4 gauge wiring get here I’ll shorten the wires up and mount a plug to the base as shown. And I had to get a carry bag for my extension cord and the wiring from the supply to the car.

Finally got the Anderson plugs in and one hard mounted to the base like I wanted. Everything will be nice and compact with no loose wires hanging off of it. Painted the base and I’ll put it all back together tomorrow.

And done. Now to strip the front doors down next weekend and get the a-pillar mods completed.

Slow progress but should be final sanded today and then to upholstery tomorrow.

The final shape. Upholstery material got hung in shipping but they’ll be in my hands by Friday for a weekend install.
