Saw a post in another group with someone waiting 20 months for a Navigator… and I thought that I felt bad…
Dang. If I already had a car that I loved, maybe I could wait 20 months. But this ST is the first car I’ve ever bought because I wanted it. I’m driving a Chrysler Pacifica right now. I’m already waited out lol

Been following this thread for past several weeks. Here is my story. Spoiler: Looks like some potential good news for a few of us here is forthcoming.

I ordered the below Ford Explorer Limited on 3/27/23:
2023 Explorer Limited Intelligent 4WD:
  • 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4 Engine with Auto Start-Stop Technology
  • 10-Speed Automatic Transmission
  • Forged Green Metallic
  • Ebony Leather-Trimmed with Micro Perforated Inserts and Accent Stitching
  • 20” Premium Painted Aluminum Wheels
  • 301A High Package
  • Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+
  • Terrain Management System™
Since then, my experience has been the same as most everyone else on this thread.
Ford status page says it's been in production since 7/20. My window sticker says it was built on 7/19 and sitting in Chicago.

Here's the chat traffic I had with a FordChat representative this morning:

"Hey X, can you tell me the delivery status of my explorer and if you have any other information you can provide me regarding my vehicle and the 360 recall?"

"Hi, Steven! My name is X. Give me just a moment to read over your message....
I can absolutely look into your order for you!"

"I'd like you to look in your internal system. Not the one I see. The one I see says in production week of 7/20. When I've called before I've been told my vehicle is built and in chicago.
The window sticker reflects the same."

"We always use our internal system here, Steven so that won't be an issue."

"Awesome! what do you see regarding delivery date?

"So your general status is still the same, in regards to it being fully produced and located in CHicago still, but your ETA window is Sep-13-2023 - Sep-19-2023. Please continue to check in here, with your dealership, and by utilizing the vehicle order tracking website (link below), for updates on your order:
https://shop.ford.com/vehicleordertracking#/"

"Thank you. can you give me any other insights? What's holding it up if the vehicle is ready and th3 360 camera is good?"

"Well from what I can see on my end there are no shipping delays, and your Priority code is actually as urgent as it gets with it being a 1. I believe your vehicle is now going through the standard shipping process. Since your priority code is so high it is very well possible that your ETA window can be moved up a few days, Steven."

"well that's fantastic news! When did the priority code elevate to 1? And would you mind explaining what (if anything) has changed over the past several days regarding this issue?"

"I see that your priority code elevated on 8/31. In regards to your 360 camera there is no blatant information. Were you informed that your vehicle has this issue?"

"I've been told that my vehicle is one of 20k 2023 explorers waiting in chicago.
https://www.explorerst.org/threads/...gree-camera-stop-sale.5925/page-23#post-78711
I think most of these explorers were affected in some way or another by the 360 camera recall issue."

I'm not sure why my Priority code got elevated. FWIW, I do remember having a very pleasant conversation on the phone with one of the Ford customer service representatives last Thursday. Honestly, all the customer service reps I've interacted with over the phone or thru Ford chat over the past few weeks have been awesome. I feel for all those people fielding calls from annoyed customers like us.

Personally, I'm optimistic that I'll get the vehicle soon. Regardless, it's too bad for all of us who've been stuck waiting. I've put about 16k on my old Lincoln MKT since March. When it eventually does happen, driving this new explorer off the lot will feel pretty fantastic.

FWIW, my experience with Bell Ford out of Arlington, WI ((608) 635-4383) has been exceptional. My sales manager and rep couldn't tell me what I wanted to hear in when I reached out to them iregarding the delay, but they were responsive and helpful and made the whole thing easier to deal with. They were great.

Best of luck to everyone. I'll keep you posted as to any updates regarding my vehicle.

Thanks,

Steven
Thanks for sharing. Be sure to touch base if/when you do take receipt of your Explorer!

We have much in common. I'm in Ohio and my built date was 7-19-23 also. My tracker has not been updated. Just called and they said it is in Chicago and supposed to ship 9-3 to 9-9. Still not holding breath. I asked if it was held up due to the 360 camera issues and rep said they didn't have that information.

Forgive me if I don't share the info on the specific vehicle, but I just found an ST built on 4/12/23 that is on the lot and apparently available for sale. Are some dealers actually doing the fix on cars on the lot even though they are not supposed to? Or could this be someones build that they could not take delivery of so the dealer applied the fix as a currently owned vehicle?
As expected... I called the dealership about the one on the lot and they said it was there and available to be delivered. I went there this morning and what did they say? Even though I had worked out a deal for the one that is still supposed to be delivered they are saying that the offers have changed so the OTD would be thousands more than the deal I originally worked out. I have heard people on here say that before, but here is the thing... the advertised price after discounts is the EXACT SAME as it was when I originally worked out the deal with the sales manager. So, even if the incentives have changed they apparently have similar incentives available to discount the price as they did a few months ago. I truly believe that they are simply trying to get more money for it because of short supply. I think that is sad when you don't even honor a deal that you made with a customer. That's just IMO. I will certainly be going to another dealership or getting a different vehicle all together.

I tried to enter the vin number of the ST sitting on my dealership lot on the nhtsa site and nothing came up. I’m not sure what that means. I’m curious if others have the same issue or tried that route to see.

Sorry to hear about this, I would dump the dealer on the spot with that happening.

Hopefully you can find another example (with the 360 cam removed, if not a unit that has squeezed by with one installed). I bet that there will be lots of people like you and others who have decided to cancel the deal with no delivery date, and move away from an order or lot vehicle... so there should be options popping up.

The Jeep dealer that I was working with on a Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve w/Hemi appears to have gone MIA. Last I heard last week was an approval and demand for a deposit... but we had not yet settled on a VIN or final numbers (they shot high and tacked on dumb things like a $5000 7 year extended warranty on a 3 year lease). I gave them my preferred options and have heard silence since saying that I will provide a deposit once we have a car located and a price settled. I guess that they wanted me to throw in cash for their V6 slowpoke lot specials w/added junk that I do not want. Will look elsewhere while I wait for Ford news... I might just go hybrid and to my old folks at MB and pick up a GLE53 that they have in stock.

An update from our "sister" forum/Lincoln: supposedly between Ford and Magna there are 800 cameras being received/installed per week. Not sure whether that is just Lincoln, or between Lincoln and Ford - but there are 5000-6000 Aviators to get through of the 21-22k cars sitting at CAP. At 800 per week and 22k cars, this is going to be a massively long undertaking. Suffice it to say unless you somehow bamboozled a high priority code (and even then there is only so high a code that a dealer can get), I'm treating this like a lottery : chances are it will be 2-3 months before cars ship. Yours may get out earlier, it may get out later.

Yep. I said "Thank You", walked to my car and drove away. I also sent the dealership a message explaining how dissapointed I was with their actions. Not that they give a damn anyway.

lol. "Sorry, the information that you have, that came from the NHTSA regarding a Ford recall that is costing the company hundreds of millions of dollars, yea... we don't have that information." Maybe the reps really don't have that info. But that's what's sad! Ford doesn't communicate to dealers, buyers... or even their own customer support staff. I'm tellin' ya - laugh or cry.

I just checked the VIN of an ST that I test drove in March that is still sitting on my dealer lot... it shows the 360 camera recall. My build shows no recalls... but that's because it has no 360 camera at all yet. So maybe yours yielding no results is a good sign? Did it say "0 Unprepared Recalls Associated with this VIN" ? Have you called the dealership to see if maybe they've fixed the camera? Slim chance but hey

Gosh that sucks. So they effectively refused to swap vehicles on your deal? I am considering trying to make something similar happen with my dealership... guess I shouldn't get my hopes up. They wouldn't honor the deal you made on the Explorer build that isn't ready yet - for a different Explorer that's currently available... tells me they're definitely not interested in integrity, taking care of you, or earning your business or loyalty. They could easily make that happen for you, I would think! I think it's a viable option to wait on your order, at least you'll get the deal you worked out. But it's also a viable option to walk away from that dealership and give someone else your money, if the opportunity presents itself!

Walking away. They aren't even going to honor the deal for the original one I was waiting for when it arrives.

Wow, that's just pathetic - which dealership is this?! After all the waiting... plus you would have gotten a rebate from Ford for this had they stuck to the contract...

I ordered my Explorer in February, it was built in May. I finally got an email this morning stating that it was ready for shipment. Interestingly, the window sticker shows that it has a 360-degree camera. We shall see.

How can they do that? Don't you have a contract? Just amazing to me how some businesses survive with such poor customer service.

No. It was a dealer order that we were waiting on being delivered.
