Why? It's not like this is some extended warranty, it just doesn't affect the factory warranty. If you tune a 2020 with this turd, should Ford restart the warranty?
Yeah I guess. I just figured in my head that the warranty for the tune would start from installation. But I guess it does make sense.

It should, but it won’t. Just like when you buy the Ford ESP: it starts retroactively from your new in-service date. It’s a just-the-way-they-do-it thing. I’d not even bother having a dealer fuss with it on my ‘20 since I’ll be at three years of service in just a few more months. Since this tune is pretty mild, it’s probably safe for the drivetrain while still making a difference in overall performance which is perfect for plenty of us.
That’s what I got to thinking. I wouldn’t worry too much about warranty concerns since it is relatively mild.

But I was bored today and was reading the things it won’t cover. No racing guys! Lol

Back on topic though. It seems with this tune the FP warranty would only really benefit newer/low mileage STs. There would still be the 5/60 to fall back on but even then there’s no guarantee.

Since I drive a 2020 with 60K miles on it, the FP tune warranty will not cover the tune out the gate. But my bumper to bumper extended warranty 7yrs/100K will cover anything it breaks (transmission for example) since it was installed in a Ford dealership with FP parts. Right?

No. It could be covered but if ford denies the warranty claim because they know you have the tune you're on the hook for the repair

This is quite strange if you ask me. The tunes warranty starts from when your vehicles warranty started. NOT when the tune is installed.
Of course it doesn't, that is what an extended warranty is for. More reasons to go with a proper tune over this Ford "tune".

Yeah I had to rethink it and it makes sense now.

I only wanted the Ford Tune to keep within my extended warranty. But if there is no warranty to the FP Tune, than why get the FP Tune if Ford isn't going to cover anything if it breaks? It's a conundrum.

Because your existing bumper-to-bumper *could* still cover a drivetrain issue. It will not automatically be denied because of the FP tune, whereas a third party tune is much more likely to cause a warranty repair to be denied. Also there are issues that occur outside of the powertrain, like an alternator or something, your b-t-b warranty will still cover that. On the other hand Ford *could* deny that if you had a third party tune (even though that third party tune did not contribute to the issue). At least that is the way I understand it.

A famous philosopher was once asked about buying a warrantied / guarantied product, similar to this FP tune. His response was "Because they know all they sold you was a guaranteed piece of shit. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, you might wanna think about buying a quality product from [ZFG]."

That would be Mr Shelby, right? Can’t hurt him because he’s already dead!

Geez, what is their hourly rate? Even at $200/hr they're still overcharging you... Or they're getting their dumbest tech to install it

Wow, that’s absolute nonsense. I’d call them out and make them give you a breakdown of the time they expect to spend on it. They probably don’t want to do it and are giving you a price they are happy to do it for. Purely speculation but that is nuts.
