Well balls....I was so stoked Waiting to hear from the wife on whether or not it reverts back.

I wonder if they pushed some update...

The start-stop feature is controlled by the ECU and FORScan can’t access the ECU. The ECU actually performs the stop-start function based on alternator/battery output/voltage, A/C compressor status, engine coolant temp, and I think one or two more parameters. This is why you get fooled into thinking you’ve disabled it yet later it is still working.

However, I do think FORScan can disable it. If I remember right, it’s in at least two modules, maybe three that provide one or more of the stop-start decision parameters I mentioned above.

It takes a bit of time/effort, but you’ll need to open every module and read each line description to find it.

It must be worded differently in each module. I opened all and read line by line. Oh well.

Ya I saw it in there twice too. DDM and APIM, I think.

Someone in another thread mentioned disconnecting a wire to the battery or a wire that goes somewhere that reads the battery voltage, as the start/stop feature does not come on when the battery voltage is low. Not sure if doing this would cause a host of errors.

I just will use my stop/start eliminator. Glad I keep it.

You can't turn off ASS with Forscan. The only method that currently works, and maintains the ability to turn it on with the physical button next to the shift knob, is with the ASS Eliminator.

The status you screenshot in that module simply shows the current state. If you were to push the ASS button you would see that value change to Disabled but it doesn't disable permanently. Usually after the next on/off cycle, the ASS returns to factory state.

The low battery issue does turn o the ASS feature. I had my 2020 serviced many months ago for a number of recall issues (back up camera, AWD failure, etc.) and all issues were fixed with new modules and code resets. One positive result is that the ASS no longer functioned. No complaint here. But recently I started getting the low battery notices so I had the battery replaced. Maybe it was the disconnect period or the new AGM battery, but now the ASS feature is back.

If the battery voltage drops below a certain point, the ASS stops working.

My 22 has 11k miles. For the last thousand miles or so, my ASS hasn’t operated at all. Maybe once or twice in there. I click over to the widget and I believe it usually says something like disabled vehicle charging. I’ve been cautiously waiting to have some electrical issues if the battery goes bad. It’s been nice not having to hit the bottom though. I will say, a lot of my trips are 10’miles or less. So maybe my battery just gets minimal charging with each start up. Who knows. I think my battery just isn’t as strong as it was when brand new. But it’s only 11k!

you'd be a hero of the ExST community if you found that this works

I haven't had the car more than a month yet, so there are still some aspects of it that I'm getting familiar with.

So far, when I stop, a crossed out auto stop-start icon appears. Then when I get moving again, it disappears.

Will do more driving later today.

What is the normal behavior of the ASS indicator light?

the crossed out ASS means that it has been disabled either by sport mode or by pressing the button

I'm not saying you might not have hit on a magic combination, but in the last 3 years, and several threads on the subject, no one has figured out a way to truly disable the ASS via Forscan over the long term.

You can certainly buy the wire-in ASS eliminator which works. Some tuners can also disable it. And speaking from my own experience and others like @st8 , as the battery begins to fail, it will also be disabled. I have heard anecdotally, that a low oil life indicator will also disable it.

Just posted in the other thread. According to the dealer, my battery is fine and passed the test. However, it clearly is still on its way out but still strong enough to keep things running. Everything but ASS.
