Good morning. I want to replace the factory speakers in my lower front doors. I think the originals are just subs. Do I replace with subs or can I use a standard three way speaker?

Man, after reading down the posts in some of the build threads, I think I’ll just keep the factory speakers.

The main front speakers serve as midbass and have all other frequencies cut. You can bolt in whatever you want…only the passband will play.

I did the front doors and posted in the other forum. For a budget install, I am very impressed with the sound quality with a powered sub filling out the low end. As mentioned, the doors do not have any appreciable low bass and that certainly should not be a goal.
I used Powerbass 6x9 drop in midbass, FaitalPro 3" mid with separate low pass filter, Kicker 1" Ti tweeter with inline cap,

Thanks for the replies. I ordered the door speakers and center dash from Crutchfield. Will update after I install. I’m not an audiophile, just want clean tunes.

..with replacement of the stock speakers using the stock system.

Still missing your point. Are you saying the doors should or should not be playing low bass?

I'm saying if you are just replacing the stock speakers, you aren't going to find much that will produce low bass with just a driver replacement. The 6x9 is a midrange driver. I'm not even sure the stock system passes low frequency to that driver.

The stock 6x9 is a midbass in the 14 speaker version. The midrange and tweeter are higher in the door.

You need to reread what I wrote that you initially responded to. You are not getting low bass by replacing the 6x9 in the stock system. Like I said, I replaced with midbass, midrange and tweeter. There is not significant low bass and that shouldn't be the expectation with a stock speaker swap in the front doors.
