I have a 2020 ford explorer police interceptor and I started to get a noise front passenger as well over bumps and at low speeds sounds like something with the suspension/ strut or mount I called ford and they’re charging me $164 just to diagnose it so I’m thinking of just going to a local mechanic and get it check for free but not sure if that’s a good idea and advice ???

I had that problem with the bad strut on my 23 King Ranch, but I traded it before trying to have it repaired. I have 11,000 miles on my 25ST I’ve noticed lately I’m getting that same sound again. like I had on the 23 anybody else having that problem on the 25 models?

I took it to a local mechanic he told me it was the sway bar links and axle I ordered the parts and got it changed at ford quick lane I spend about $800 total and still have the noise on the front passenger over bumps I think it’s the struts and strut upper mount sounds like it! I also read people fixed the sway bar links and still had the noise untill they replaced the strut so I’m guessing it has to be it

Front end random knocking in cooler weather say below mid 50's. This was on a new 2023 ST. Since, at the time, there were supply chain issues getting front struts I found a new pair of front struts at the dealer and purchased them at trade price. I also grabbed the strut hats and strut upper rubber bearing and all the new nuts and bolts required for installation. I also did the same for the front and rear sway bar links. The dealer installed all these new parts (basically for no charge) when they installed my H&R lowering springs. The dealer also aligned the suspension. Front end knocking issue gone and has not returned in 8,000 miles.

Well my 2023 is back at the dealership for round #2 of replacing both struts!

I didn’t even make it a full day when the dealership changed them out the first time.
The clunking came back worse than before.

My 23 had this problem. Ford replaced the "strut bearing assembly" The problem was gone for 2 weeks and then returned. I had only 3000 miles on it.
I've had no issues yet with my 25, fingers crossed

On a side note, it’s not surprising the strut top bearing won’t hold up. I just did shocks, struts, and springs. The struts had 37k miles on them. I had a bad rear shock and rusted Steeda springs so I just did it all.

Anyhow, when I took the first spring off the strut, the plastic strut bearing disintegrated dropping ball bearings all over the floor. The bearing is two plastic rings with a channel to fill with ball bearings. The rings just sandwich the ball bearings. After seeing one, I’m somewhat shocked these aren’t falling apart everywhere. They were cheap so I ordered them in advance.

Just picked up my Explorer from the dealership. The new struts replaced the first time are still good.
They discovered the sway bar end links on either side had play in them and was causing the clunking issues.
