Full 3" exhaust?

So SPD's downpipes are 3", but all the exhausts that I am seeing are 2.25" or 2.5". Does anyone make a full 3" exhaust to mate with the 3" SPD downpipes?

Hopefully in the future there will be more options available.

Larger exhaust = less back pressure; not always a good thing for performance.

For turbocharged vehicles it is.

You'll have more flow but less back pressure which can lead to turbo lag.

By no means am I an expert with turbo charged engines. I was always led to believe that with turbo charged engines back pressure was not a necessity. Can you elaborate just a little on that? I'm not doubting you, nor do I expect an in depth explanation, but I am curious and I want to be corrected if my "knowledge" is incorrect.

Trust me, I have built a lot of turbocharged motor vehicles, from 1,000+awhp Nissan GTR's to 625rwhp turbo Suzuki Hayabusas. Larger diameter exhausts on turbocharged vehicles is always a better thing. Obviously you aren't gonna run a 4" exhaust on a busa for example, but a 3" full system on an ST will absolutely improve power.

Anyone know the setup Porsche uses on the Macan? Slightly bigger engine that sounds pretty damn good for a factory exhaust.

considered it, then gave up. by the time i priced out the valves, custom mandrel bent tubing, solenoids, wiring, etc. i was well over $1000.

That being said, a setup like this would be AMAZING and I hope someone does it.

More backpressure leads to lag, less backpressure less lag.

Hey folks, just wanted to throw an update on here. I’ve had a custom exhaust installed, finally. Thanks to COVID it’s taken longer than expected. It’s a cat-back, x-pipe, no resonator, into single-in, dual-out custom mufflers. 3” mandrel bent, welded all the way through. Tips are 3 1/2”.

It‘s perfect for me...not obnoxious, but is loud enough to turn heads and is pretty throaty. The only thing I may change are the tips. I’ll stick with 3 1/2, but might switch to something a little more refined. We will see. Here are some videos...not the best audio, so we’re working on improving it.

I also have the Palm Beach Dyno tune and a drop-in K&N air filter, along with H&R springs.

What are your thoughts on power gain? Anything you can notice? Very curious on low end power...any noticeable loss? See so much conflicting info on here and debating 3” vs 2.5” really only concern is potentially losing low end - I do more 0-60 messing around than 1/4 mile, high speed racing
