Gas splash back when refueling?

I had a similar issue where the pump would keep clicking off during fill up. It was actually a software update for some valve that fixed it for me. Never did I think that would be a software update!

That is surprising. Then again it has louvers on the radiator....

So this morning took me 5 mins to fill up $20 worth of gas. Literally every 2-3 seconds of fueling would cause back pressure and shut off the pump. It been going on since day one but after owning two other fords (used) with easy fuel each had a personality of their own. Since this is a 4 month old vehicle I am ashamed of wrestling the pump and looking like a fool every pump I arrive to.
Also have to deal with a 4 day wait time for diagnosis. This is our only vehicle which seems like a mistake to make.

I’ve found on our ST I can’t insert the nozzle all the way in or it will shut off. I insert the nozzle all the way in, and pull it back out about an inch. That seems to work for me.

its really a frustrating concept for simple refueling procedures. I might just use the emergency funnel for refueling on a daily basis, but thinking of this though should be that difficult in the first place. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the vehicle but it needs fuel to run like a raptor.

So wait their only recalling a small product date? Mine was produced in October 21 which is a late build… SMH so they know about this issue but only choose Dec 21..

Sorry but that is the way recalls work. It only applies to dates between X and Y. Pretty simple to understand really. It would be really stupid to recall thousands of vehicles for no reason.

that’s kind of funny because having a late build date still has issues as a 2022 model. It has to be same parts being manufactured for the same vehicle concept.
Imagine pulling up and trying to refuel, fighting with handle hoping it fuel up, then hearing back pressure build up and stop, stop, and stop again. I was in 32*F with wind blowing hard and trying to refuel a half filled tank for 5 mins just barely reaching a 3/4 full. That’s sad when a new vehicle should just except fuel. But it is what it is since I have own 2 used ford with easy fueling but each had beeoch teenager attitude.

Did you even read what the recall was for? It's not because of slow filling.

But that recall admits something is wrong with refueling in the explorer.

i have to admit though the ST explorer won’t be around much longer for sale. This suv probably be one the first fully electric suv from ford along with the expedition being fully electric. Number one seller F150 is fully electric already.

well obviously you can buy a gas f150 but my point is they made the commitment to deliver a fully electric f150 to customers by fall of 2022. That’s more a commitment that’s rivan, hummer, Tesla.
You don’t think that’s why their cutting corners in production of gas vehicles?
Gave the wrong subframe, pixelated screens, exhaust leaks since the last production of the explorer, refueling issues, loose wiring contact to cause a dead battery.
I want a explorer to go zoom but now knowing I have a wrong subframe what can I do? Can’t tune might snap the subframe support, I got ST explorer for the power aspect of have the capability of track days, drag days and cannon drives.

Well the way you said it made me wonder. I have a 2020 and pretty minor issues. Do you have fueling issues or just complaining because others do? The recall has nothing to do with fueling issues. Have you had an exhaust leak or screen issues? Or once again just complaining?

I have a refueling issue and pixelated screen everyday and exhaust smells like a straight pipe car for a drag day and wrong subframe issue. Like what the hell am I going to do a 4 day wait period for just a diagnosis per issue cause the fords in my state only handle one issue at a time. They keep saying pandemic issues that cause delay but seems everything is open up… real sus
I only have this one vehicle which I sold the two others for this one which seems like a big mistake. This is my second explorer wife just wanted captain seats instead of bench and I wanted the ST technology since I a big fan of drag days. Wanted the fastest local ST but that seems like a dream since the subframe is weak as a babys legs.

As a risk manager type you couldn't pay me to park any electric vehicle in my garage (or near it) when the lithium batteries can spontaneously combust. Then its bye bye house while your sleeping. I wonder what the carbon footprint of all that process would be? Look up electric car battery fires on the internet. The batteries can also strand an electric charge in the battery which makes the batteries very hard to extinguish and/or keep extinguished. They can also reignite days later because of this stranded electrical charge in the battery. Some have even spontaneously re-combusted several days later while the car was parked in storage due to the initial fire.

I have a 2020 and had been experiencing the back pressure problem for a few months prior to the dealership replacing the necessary components in January. It was quite annoying having to hold the nozzle so lightly for 5 minutes to get barely a gallon of gas in 30-40 degree weather.

thank you for understanding! It’s like why do we keep insisting to buy this vehicle when they should fix the problem for the customers.
I literally sold every vehicle to get one vehicle because I was tired of have the USED car issues cause previous owners always neglected the car. But my 2019 limited explorer was far better built and less of issues than this 2021 ST. I couldnt hold onto a v6 N/A that the water pump would fail around 100k and was a 5k fix due to the location of water pump inside the engine block.

They just had a Tesla catch fire here & it took FOUR HOURS to put it out. In related news.. the Chevy Bolt is allegedly GM's most reliable vehicle & owners have been told not to park it indoors or with 50ft of other vehicles.
