Just picked up a used 22 Explorer ST yesterday and I’ve already unfortunately run into an issue. I’ve only had two short outings since getting it home - each time I start the car I notice a hiss from the dash board for 2-3 seconds. I thought it was weird but let it go. Tonight I went to get some gas for my SxS and the AC quit blowing cold. All settings on low, but I was still getting nearly ambient temp air.

I’ve done some googling and I’ve seen anything from broken lines to bad compressors. Since the dealership I bought from still has it listed, I was able to view the carfax which interestingly enough shows the AC has been serviced and recharged twice. It’s a 2022 with 27k miles on it. I’m still in the 3/36 until February so I can take it in, but I wanted to see if anyone here has had the same issue and what to expect

CarFax I believe says recharging the AC and servicing the AC is the same thing. I’d definitely bring it back to the dealer for sure. I haven’t heard of this problem before.

My A/C does the same thing. Hiss for about 5 sec.

If you have it set to Auto the A/C will turn off when it reaches the temp you have it set at. Then it just blows ambient air. I have heard mine hiss when changing from vents to defrost or vice versa. Maybe that's what you're hearing.

Are we talking about 2 issues? 1. hissing on startup. 2. A/C blowing ambient air instead of cold.

My thought is that they’re going to be one and the same. After playing with it more this morning, it does appear the passenger side is working properly. It’s blowing nice cold air while the driver side is near ambient

Are both side set to the same temp? If they are, something is definately not right. If the passenger side is set lower than the driver side it's going to do exactly what you described.

Yes, set to the same temp. I also noticed that on top of blowing colder, the passenger side also blows harder. I’m very very familiar with Fords climate controls as I’ve had 8 mustangs, 2 modern rangers and now my Explorer. Kinda disappointing, but I love the car so far otherwise. I uploaded a video of the sound it’s making but it needs to be approved by mods before the post shows up.
