The OBDLINK EX is almost a gold standard of recommended cable for Forscan. Under development is updating modules. You can do that with the EX but not the MX+. Besides, the EX is way cheaper than the MX+ and no switch to deal with unlike generic cables.

Dude I have used the MX+ on over 100 vehicles, and before that the MX(WiFi) on almost as many.

The EX is about a year old. I have one of the very early versions before it was available to the public. It is great, and like you said is going to add features like flashing modules. The reason the EX is required is because the connection is a hard connection and not WiFi/BTLE. When flashing a module, a slight blip could lead to an issue, whereas for normal programming there is a check and balance.

The MX+ can be used on Windows, iOS, Android, for other apps and monitoring, or clearing codes. The EX is locked to Windows Laptop and FORSCAN. If you aren’t going to actually flash modules(probably less than 5% of FORSCAN users), the MX+ is more universal and can be used in WAY more use cases.

Agreed, but it has gotten better in recent years. The easy drop down changes have been there fir a while, but they have done a good job of adding more changes that don’t need actual coding.

I see what you are saying but really depends on the use case. I have used the Ex maybe 4-5 times since I got it.

I use the MX+ all the time. Heck it used to stay plugged in to my ST all the time for monitoring until I got the Insight. Would just bring up OBD Fusion or FORSCAN Lite and look at what ever I wanted to live on my phone. Not something you can do with the Ex. I have a Kiwi4 plugged in to the Wife’s Expedition for the same monitoring. Watch all the temps!

OBD Links app is the same as Fusion just rebranded. They purchase it from them.

I have downloaded it, bought the adapter (actually bought the MX+ and then realized that I needed the EX - wired version - to make changes). But....It's not as easy as everyone makes it seem. I thought I was tech savvy but the interface is very confusing to me. I am still searching through youtube to find a good explanation of how to make chages. Going to take a deep dive this weekend. I wish someone from here would make a video specific for an explorer (don't know if that even makes a difference).

If you want to do a TeamViewer I could assist. If you don't feel comfortable with an IT guy logging in that you do not know I fully understand. This kid on YouTube makes it quite intuitive for the newbie who is not tech savvy. Watch his video and follow his instructions and you should be able to do it with ease. If you decide you would like me to assist I will help you via TeamViewer as long as you have a Windows notebook. I do not do Macintosh at all. 95% of the modern world uses Windows. The decision is yours, good luck whatever you decide. It is not that difficult. I mastered it within 10 minutes. You could only program what they have found definitive codes for so there is no experimentation. If they identified a code, you simply enter that code and you can switch that feature on or off. They did not crack the Auto engine start-stop as of yet. You must buy that little device from engine start/stop eliminator which works like a champ for less than 100 bucks.

I am a systems admin by trade, and I get amused every-time somebody posts things like this!!

This takes the business world in to account, and because of manageability alone Windows dominates. In the personal device market, it is not this big of a difference.

Also, even business devices factored in Apple had over 8% of the Computer market in 2020. That does not take into account iPads which cut in to the Computer market also.

It was a joke bro.. Chill out. I just offered to help and the world does revolve around Windows. I didn't make the rules, I just prefer Windows and Android. Most Adults do. We do not need hand holding like the mac users. The offers still stands if he needs my help. If not, he can watch the video I posted. I am not a Mac guy...own about 12 different Computers in my house, including 3 Servers, 5 Laptops(1 of which is a Mac), 4 Desktops(1 of which is a M1 powered Mac Mini). 2 of the Servers are VMWare Servers and each have several Linux servers on them. I use all operating systems. Anybody who is a true IT person does. I support 200+ Systems at my day job, and use to support 30K+ at the previous School System I worked for. It is VERY narrow minded to call one superior over the other. Macs have their place. They are FAR more secure out of the box than any Windows device. Same is true for iPhones vs the average Android device. The Titan chip equipped Android devices being the most recent exception. They are proving to be on par with the current Gen iPhones as far as security.

Oops... I confused you with another member (Mkuluz) with regard to helping him with ForScan. My error, I mistook you for Mkuluz. He is the Mac user that I offered to log in with TeamViewer and assist. You happened to chime around the same time I was responding to his post. I confused the two of you. My mistake. I was offering to help him and found it odd that a grown man had to borrow a Windows laptop in order to use ForScan. You and I can banter back and forth all day long, I enjoy it to be honest, but I still would like to Mkuluz with his ForScan issue first now that I know who is who. I am getting too old (51)for this crap!
