Hello All, I have a 2022 explorer ST and I’ve always wondered. Does anyone know why on the inside of the tips that they don’t go out the back that they turned down at the bottom? And why all the new 25 to that as well, I’m just super curiousalso, is there any downside for replacing the tips with ones that go straight out the back and don’t turn down? Thanks in advance for the help.

Some say to keep them clean. Some say to keep fumes out of the car. Whatever the reason is it doesn’t hurt anything to swap them to proper tips. There are tons of cars doing this now…or just using completely fake tips.

Some of the prior years had issues with exhaust fumes coming back into the cabin. So that’s the only logical explanation in my opinion.

Ford themselves say it’s to keep them clean.

They say this and they still give us stupid small exhaust tips.
