Low Bass Sound During Deceleration

2022 Ford Explorer ST with 48,000 miles having a low droning bass sound during deceleration. It’s very noticeable when slowing down with RPM’s in 1500 to 1000 range. Feel slight vibration but mainly annoying sound every time I slow down. Tried putting in neutral when decelerating but doesn’t go away. Does not happen when accelerating. This happens in normal drive mode. Any ideas on what this is?

Not likely engine or exhaust if it doesn’t change when you put it in neutral. My best guesses would be possibly a tire problem or an issue in the drivetrain like driveshaft bearing or diff issue.

Service dept replaced transfer case but it did not repair this issue. Tech thinks possibly something with sound enhancement system?? Not sure what that means.

There’s Fake Engine Noise. Makes engine sounds through stereo. You can turn it off using Forscan. Dealer should be able to turn it off and test it. If it goes away after turning it off that’s the issue. Janay of us turned it off asap after buying.

I do notice when decelerating there is a low bass resonating sound as the engine downshifts.

I had a similar issue with mine where I would get a vibration between 1100-1300 rpms while accelerating or decelerating. Ended up being a bad flex pipe. Split open on the top of it.

It could be the sound dampening panels under the vehicle being loose, the long fabric panels have crap plastic retainers that break off and allow the panels to vibrate. Worth checking as it’s an easy fix if they are loose.

I have same thing going on. Mine is an 22 XLT AWD with 2.3L. 34k miles. Just got the car and just put new tires on Same as originals. Believe it was there before that. Goes away as soon as you tip in throttle.

I’m also noticing now that the sound/vibration tends to be less noticeable if I turn the A/C system totally off. Could A/C be causing this issue? Anyone else noticing this too?

Have not noticed regarding AC but it’s in the 20s here. I can however turn the noise on and off when switching in and out of drive while moving. Guessing in the driveline as the car gets very quiet when in neutral. Wondering if driveline is setting off the exhaust somehow as I have exhaust buzz in park outside the rear of the vehicle too. Mine is the 2.3L.

I think there needs to be a clarification here. Because of how muffled our exhaust is, there will be a noticeable louder buzz when decelerating at certain speeds, or especially when the vehicle does a semi cold start.
