Lower suspension?

I’ve seen on YouTube that some ST owners are opting to lower the ST. I realize that a lowering will improve some handling, but I wonder if it just turns the ST into a station wagon rather than a high-performance SUV? Thoughts?

It's something like an inch and a quarter lower or so. Hardly slammed.

H&R is roughly 1 1/2” lower...and makes it look great IMHO. Does this look like a station wagon or a proper high performance SUV?

Interesting. Only those who have experienced a station wagon will get the reason why this is a bad association. However, as a kid I had a blast running around our wagon without a seatbelt and sitting in the reversed 3rd row making faces at other drivers. Come to think of it, a minivan might be a more understood comparison to some in this group - maybe. I mean we could call it an “avant” too. Either way though, I’m ok with whatever you call it or think of it. Hell, have you seen the RS6 Avant? I’ll gladly take that station wagon.

At less then 8 inches ground clearance stock it's hardly an off good road vehicle to begin with so another couple inches lower isn't going to hurt anything. It will still make it over speed bumps.

can confirm, lowered springs & upgraded sway bar. This is no station wagon (those are cool in their own right), it's just an awesome vehicle.... just a bit lower ;).

I don't think so (IM not so HO). I think OP was (guessing here) concerned about making the ST into something it's not?

As the Explorer is like a vast majority of new SUVs and has zero off-road potential, it is essentially a station wagon with a taller roof. Lowering it 1.5 inches won't affect it's ability to traverse gravel driveways. Stock or lowered, it's still a big station wagon. Lowered just looks a little better.

lol, quite true. even the true performance wagons are getting taller... 4" separates the new RS6 and a Q3. an allroad is actually taller than a macan with PASM in the low setting--silly times we live in.

Definitely not to me. However I think his use of the term is referring to a huge boat-like vehicle.

I think most here just view High Performance SUV and station wagon as pretty much the same. Lowering an Explorer ST or Jeep Trackhawk or GLE63 is all well and good and doesn't change their purpose. Lowering a Wrangler or Bronco, on the other hand, proper off-road oriented vehicles, is quite dumb.
