So last Memorial Day, after watching oh so many Youtube videos on the different exhaust systems I purchased the Magnaflow 19515 system from the Magnaflow sales site, Hottexhaust.com Why that one? I have had great experiences with Magnaflow in the past, they offered a 20 percent discount and no shipping fee or sales tax, which lowered it from "ridiculously expensive" to merely "expensive", and it had Heimholtz resonators which are cool as f, cuz science! What an expensive mistake.
First, the install. The mid-pipe end that is supposed to easily slide over the down-pipe end was exactly the same diameter as the down-pipe. Because I had no desire to spend a couple hundred dollars on a quality pipe expander I would only need once, I loaded everything in the back and went off to my local Yelp five star rated muffler shop with only the down-pipes as mufflers. But I didn't throw a code so cool! $100 bucks later the install was complete and they had another five star review. What a great shop.
When they first fired it up I was very happy with the sound. And then I got on the highway and discovered the drone. A drone so bad it buzzed the steering wheel. But only within the entire highway cruise range of 65-85 above and below 2000 RPM so no biggy right? WTF?! I guess the Engineer who did the math on the Heimholtz resonators has a twisted sense of humor. Somebody needs an ass whoopin'. I added some header baffles with steel wool packing which helped but it still has the drone meter up in the annoying range so I'm writing it off as an expensive mistake and writing Magnaflow off forever due to their "too bad, so sad" response to my complaints.
Hottexhaust.com sent me a review request which I honored. I did give the system two stars due to the quality construction of the components and a detailed write up of my experience. When I hit send I got a "review pending approval" message and I laughed out loud. Needless to say if you go to that product on the hottexhaust.com site it says "no reviews yet". Liars!
So now after reading oh so many posts on the the forum here I'm twisting myself into knots trying to decide between the Thermal R&D and the MBRP systems. I'm gonna call Whoosh Motorsports later today and and parlay a bit and pick their brains. I don't want to make another expensive mistake.
