The Ford Owners website is showing a new map update available this morning. After downloading it looks to be an old version as the files are dated Mar 2020 and older. I did call Ford and they show version NA 119 as the current one. Well I'm running NA 220 and so are others. Just wanted to give a heads up about it.

So, there is not an update?

There is but it's out dated. After I downloaded it is when I seen the dates on the files. All much over a year old and most going back to 2019. I've been on 220 for about 4 months now.

Anyone having the following error while trying to update to NA 2.20?

[...]
Installation Failed
Error Code: MEM_ERR01

Download files again and retry to install.

If error persists, please note code and contact 1-800-565-3673.
[...]

I did the Sync update without any issues (currently running Build 21194).

No error, just took days to complete.
Are you downloading to a flash drive or downloading OTA? OTA is the most currant map version as far as I know.

I used a flash drive
That may be the issue. Are you able to try it OTA? And what map version are you on now? The current one is NA 220

I did the update to build 21194 about a week ago and now I'm trying to update the map from NA 119 to 220

Check the date modified of the files on your USB. There was a download released early Sept and those files were all about 2 years old.

Are you able to check for updates OTA from your Explorer?

I just tried the OTA and it seems to be downloading 4U5T-14G421-CAD_1615428059000.TAR.GZ. I'm guessing it's not going to keep downloading it if the vehicle isn't running or the power is shutoff...

That file is one of the first for the map update. I've seen some posts where people said it did keep downloading when off. For me it didn't. What I wound up doing was to turn the radio on and let it run until it timed out. It took a long time but it did finish.

I received an alert in FordPass today that I might be eligible for a map update. When I enter my VIN into the website, it says I am eligible for a complimentary SYNC3 Navigation Map update. It then describes it as a “ONE time only Map Update.” Does that mean I only ever get one complimentary update or how long will I keep receiving them for free?

I installed it today. I'm pretty sure that means the next time an update rolls around it will cost you $40. Who knows? Maybe next time an update is offered they won't offer the free update.

I found the download to take much more time than had been indicated but the actual install took less time.

Did it update you to NA 220?

Yes. I've read where others had issues with this install.

I paid particular attention to where things may go wrong for me and what may have gone wrong for them. I'm not implying anyone made a mistake with this next comment. The only place I can see where there might have been a User Error was where the instructions directs people to put the "license file" inside the SyncMyRide folder as opposed to simply letting it reside with the other files on the thumb drive. It has to be nested in that folder.

Other than that I really can't see where user errors could crop up. I guess the parenthesis problem in the license file could be an issue if someone downloaded the license file multiple times but the instructions covered this fairly well. Other than that I really can't see where user errors could crop up.

Oh yeah, one other thing. About 15 minutes into the process the screen alerted me that the vehicle had to be put through 1 Key Cycle. I almost missed this screen as I was driving and the screen disappeared and went to the ST screen. I saw just enough of the message to point me towards a shutdown, open door, restart Key Cycle. You of course have to repeat this procedure one more time once the install is complete. This was never described in anything that I had read.

It means you only get 1 install from THIS update. This is my 3rd map update for my 2020 ST.
BTW this one to 1.5 hours to load into my vehicle, the previous two were right at 1 hour.

Updated mine about a week ago with a thumb drive from Ford. No problems however had to leave it run for over an hour or more. Not bad if your out driving for an hour or plus. However used a lot of gas sitting in my driveway running.

You don't need to have the motor running to install it. I just turn the radio on. Only downside is that the radio times out and may need to be turned back on depending on how long the install takes.
