Ford released a new map update today. For me with a 2020 ST they are now charging for it. Guess I will either use the version I have or Google Maps. Pricing starts at $109.00 for 1 year and goes up from there.

For some reason, I was thinking we had 5 years of free updates but I guess not. I've always used a map app on carplay anyways so no big loss. I've only been keeping up with the maps just in case I should be somewhere with no cell service.

I recently did a map update on my in-laws Escape, for around the same price you mentioned, but it really didn't add much. Living in the Houston area where the roads change so much in a year and the maps basically being at least a year old when they are available, doesn't seem to be worth the money when you can use Google Maps.

How did you do the map update ? I have a 2022 ST and I haven't been able to fine an update procedure for the map. Is it in one of the Navigation screens or in Settings>Update ?

Just an fyi. I successfully downloaded and installed the new maps. Also it let me download my second map update for free even though it states you only get one update for free.

My street finally exists

Just completed - 23188 (Cyanlabs) and new map update (USB) successfully work.

I have been using it also for 3 weeks now, no more 1/2 screen maps or losing nav settings, but camera blue screen once every 2 weeks or so

I just updated to Sync v3.4.23188. And then checked for a map update.
I always buy the USB thumb drive to do the map update.
before it was $40.00 + shipping today it costed me $149.00 + shipping? Anybody know why it went up so much?

they are also offering 5year subscription service where they will auto ship updates to you for $269.00. But I’m likely going to trade in for a “24” when they come out.

Your free map update period has ended. This is likely for most MY2020's

Ford got greedy with this update. No way will I pay for it. I use Google maps if I need an updated map. And that's free.

The $40 thumb drive is the price to send it to you while they still allow you to download it for free. They give you a free download or a $40 USB drive for a given period of time.

I was under the impression that the free download was a one-time deal but they've downloaded to me at least twice at no charge while on auto-update.

The $149 is the price when the free updates are used up. I believe many manufacturers are moving to a subscription model and MAPS won't be the only feature. Pretty soon you'll be paying to use your massaging seats or better yet your headlights.

So, then it will force many to switch over to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?

The map still works but it just doesn't have the latest update if there is any changes.

For some that is already a no-brainer. I kinda like using Ford MAPS. I'm not sure I like it enough to pay for it.

Does anyone have the USB maps installation instructions? I downloaded the files yesterday but missed saving the instruction and can't get to them now.
