MBRP Axleback or MRT H-Pipe and Tips?

Coming up on 1 year of ownership of my 21 ST. I come from having trucks and I feel like the ST should sound a little more like a 400HP sport SUV and less like a soccer mom SUV. Also, I think the fake tips and downward exit exhaust are cheesy and ridiculous.

So, without spending an arm and a leg, I've been considering the MBRP axle back. Alternatively, I'm thinking about an MRT H pipe and a set of 3 inch tips. The Gibson axle back is another contender but slightly more than I want to spend. I've watched videos on all of the setups but it's hard to get a true idea by video.

A few factors:

I had a MBRP cat back on my last pickup and the drone got old, quick. I know axle backs aren't as bad, but I don't want drone. We do a lot of family travel and my wife and kids won't be happy with that.

Second, I'm not an attention seeker. Whenever I see a Grand Cherokee, Durango, or similar vehicle with a full blown aftermarket exhaust system screaming around town, I immediately think that person is a D-bag.. Same goes for the ricers. I don't want to be that guy. After all, its still an Explorer, not a GT500.

What I do want is a nice deep cold start, a modest rumble at idle, and some nice sounds under acceleration and full throttle. Nothing crazy or obnoxious. Looking for input. Thanks!

The MBRO will drone like crazy since it’s basically just a muffler delete. Same for the MRT h pipe, it’s not that loud with stock mufflers, but it’s basically a resonator delete and I’ve heard it can get annoying too. If you don’t want to spend the money on a full cat-back, Gibson is the only one I’d ever recommend.

There is a reason MBRP axle backs are frequently listed for sale. I'm convinced some have had multiple owners! The MRT H-pipe with stock mufflers is extremely subtle--I currently have that with stock system except the midpipe (Lethal). Unless your windows are open, you may not hear a difference. The Gibson, I had a higher pitch humming with light throttle that no one else seemed to have. I did not like how the tips were aligned a little sloppy, and that it rusts heavily in a short period of time. I would still recommend something like a full Thermal 2.5" cat back, replacing the flex section, if you want more sound with no drone.

Custom X-pipe exhausts sound beautiful on the ST. Worth asking how much that would run you if you know a good shop.
