Since there are a lot of people in this thread with experience doing fluid changes with these transmissions, I had a couple questions.
1) how often are you doing fluid changes, and are they mostly just spill and fill?
2) I plan on using a fluid extractor instead of removing the pan. How much trans fluid does the pan hold? I don't mind doing this one a year to keep the fluid fresh.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

I changed the filter the first drain and fill at 20k. 25-30k for the next one. Double drain and fill with some driving in between. Probably won’t change the filter again until 100k. I have a PPE pan with a drain. Iirc I get about 6 qts out.

dropping the pan, you can exchange 6qts, with vacuum extraction from the dipstick hole, about 4 qts.

And with the amount of people that got their panties in a bunch about the Ford Performance tune and keeping their warranty I wonder how many threw in a non spec fluid because some guy pulled up to their house and did a spill and fill..... I really hope their transmissions hold up but if a bunch start blowing up and Ford starts running a fluid analysis there are going to be a lot of pissed off people..... When I had my XFR I had to run a certain type of oil because Jag spec'd a dye in it and would deny warranty claims if you were caught not using and then you have the whole Dexos thing with GM.....

When I changed my fluid over the summer I used Valvoline ULV instead of the OEM fluid.
see any difference ??

Is this a new product by Amsoil that does meet the spec?

AMSOIL Signature Series ULV 100% Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid | ULV1G-EA - AMSOIL

Looks like it was just announced on 10-31-2024.

I only took a quick glance, but the specs seem pretty close to what the Mercon ULV is.
Looks to be the right viscosity. It’s likely good to go but Amsoil is not big on paying for rating approvals. I’ve used many of their products over the years with good results. Not currently running any Amsoil in the ST. Mobil1 oil, liquid-moly in the tranny, and valvoline synthetic in the diffs.

How are you liking the Valvoline products? Did you put their ATF in the transfer case as well?

Which liquimoly are you using in the trans? I'm guessing Toptec 1850?

I’ve switched between Mobil1 and Valvoline synthetic for the past 40 years. Had a fleet of trucks with towing involved when I owned a business and always stuck with quality fluids and early changes for trans and gears. That seemed to serve me well.

Yes, running the 1850 in the trans. Ran a case of motorcraft through it first double drain/fill but was not 100% convinced it was full synthetic. Switched to the liqui-moly. Don’t notice any difference in shifting.

Don’t recall what I put in the tcase

For some reason, I can't find the LiquiMoly 1850 anymore. Only the 1800 and 1900.

I am thinking about trying HPL Teal next, it meets the ULV spec.
