Just to throw this out there, you really don't need the Ford software. Even though you can download it for free you have to buy a license to use it. Forscan is free and can do what most people would need to do. Even just getting an interface and an app on your phone will let you read/clear codes and see live data that the vehicle doesn't show. The wireless OBDLink MX+ or the wired OBDLink EX both work great and are recommended by Forscan. Hopefully the fluid change helps out! My vehicle was in for three month waiting for a new transmission! I had some other issues though. Good luck with it!

Don’t sell yourself short. Bad fluid can cause issues. My first step for any trans issues is a double drain and fill with a filter change. Gets 80+% of the old fluid out. If the trans performance doesn’t improve it’s likely a mechanical issue. Also, torque converters can produce a lot of heat especially if it is not locking properly or locking and unlocking a lot.

Not suggesting fluid will solve your problem in this case but many times over my life fresh fluid made for a happy transmission.

Yessir I plan to this week once I’m off my shift and get a couple days. Been about a week and a half I believe after the first drain/fill. Gonna give it a go this week and drop the pan and replace the filter. See what it does for me. I’ve seen stories where people are missing whole gears and a fluid change helps em out and it shifts just fine. So fingers crossed man.

I have a code reader but didn’t know that about forscan. So thanks for the heads up man

IMG_2333.jpeg Pulled the fluid out the pan and changed the filter. Def black but new fluid and filter in. Giving it a go. Did notice the downshift was the 7-6 downshift and there’s a vibration in the 40mph range. Is that symptoms of the FADA intermediate shaft business? It hasn’t been replaced on ours. We’re getting no lights or engine codes. Would be out of pocket to fix if that’s what it turns out to be

FADA is the Front Axle Disconnect Actuator. When mine failed it locked the vehicle in 4wd. I was getting a bunch of alerts showing up and couldn’t switch driver modes. I think your vibration is coming from somewhere else. Could be the exhaust, driveshaft, a differential, etc.

That was my initial thought means how we don’t have any codes or other issues. Just the rough downshift. Did read there’s a TSB for a snap ring in the transmission that causes some issues. Hell maybe trans is burnt up who know. Shifts up great, doesn’t search clunk. Just the one downshift spot from 7-6. Gonna do some digging on that and see what I can come up with. Thank you

Update of sorts, took to local ford dealer and asked about the tsb 20-2337 and they drove it around and concluded that the issue is that 7-6 downshift and the tsb is the fix. Great, found the issue. Out of pocket cost is 7k. I’m a little lost on the breakdown as I only got a parts list for it for $1520. $5500 for labor doesn’t exactly sound right. I’ve seen others had it done before but all under warranty. Does anyone have a ballpark of what it normally would cost for this job? And, if we do go through with it, how much more work is the FADA replacement and should I get that tacked onto it as well so there shouldn’t be any more issues down the road?

I would first hit up Ford customer support and beg for some good will as you aren't that far out of powertrain warranty and the TSB is proof some of these trannies are faulty. As far as the FADA goes, YES you should definitely do the intermediate shafter replacement. The parts tally only runs a few hundred but the labor is killer. Maybe with the tranny work, the labor is a small add-on--not sure though. And it's not just that the FADA can fail, they put in a faulty O-ring on it, so it will leak oil.

Yep, most definitely is. But we’re going that route with the ford customer support deal. See what happens on Monday. 10k out of warranty..so maybe they’ll do something for us. And that’s what I figured as well. Have it done while they’re there. I priced out parts before all this to have it done and it was like $450 but the labor was $1600 at a different dealership. So thinking if they do something customer support wise, that would help take care of the cost in a way for the FADA. We don’t have a leak now but I sure would hate to get all this done and then it start leaking after it’s all back together. Just will get with dealer come Monday and see what they say.

Well just found that a new transmission is $4400 installed vs the rebuild at 7k for the tsb so looking like the option to go. Should be in on Friday. Thanks for the help everyone
