Hello Explorer ST members,
I just picked up my 2025 Explorer ST yesterday trading in my 2019 Mazda CX-9 GT. I was looking at Grand Highlanders or Pilots but drove an Explorer last year as a rental and was pretty impressed. My first choice was a Platinum with the V6 since I'm older and lean more towards luxury cars these days, but they only had an ST on the lot. The car had been a special order but the buyer backed out and it's been on the lot for over 145 days so they were motivated to sell it. The amount of tech in the SUV is a bit overwhelming but I'm figuring it out. For some reason the Ford Pass app won't let me connect to the ST and says something about not being authorized and four different dudes at the dealership couldn't get it to work; has anyone else had this problem? Anyway, happy to be here and looking forward to learning more about the ST and keeping up with potential troublesome issues.

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your service! I'm not surprised they couldn't help you at the dealership. You have to call the FordPass app people. I had the same issue when I got mine and they got it worked out. The number is 1-800-336-0486 and just say "Customer Service".

It's because it is already locked to another number. You have to call Ford to get it changed.

Thanks all for the welcome. I called Ford this morning and after unsuccessfully trying some troubleshooting methods their conclusion is there is something wrong with the vehicle's modem. It last communicated with the Ford mothership yesterday at 12:36 while I was still finishing up paperwork and then it went dark for some reason. I get this message from the Pass app: "Sorry, there was an error and we were unable to complete your request to change authorization rights on 2025 Explorer. Please try again later." @DaHuntah's explanation sounds logical to me but that's not what Ford says. Now I have to take it back to the service department apparently...not a great way to start.

Did you call Ford or FordPass? They are different.

Ford Pass. The dealership service department manager called me when I contacted my salesman yesterday. To my surprise he admitted that there were problems with some of these modems. In my experience dealerships never admit anything is wrong with their vehicles and deny that there's any problem. Anyway I'm bringing the car in tomorrow, they're going to do their diagnostics and whatever is needed to repair it and they're giving me a loaner in the meantime. At least they're trying to make it right and not pretending that there's not an issue.

I just posted an update on another thread but the bottom line is my dealer was able to correct whatever the problem was and now Pass connects with my ST after leaving it with them for a day. They gave me a loaner and it looks like I can pick it up tomorrow. Here's what they said was the problem:

"There were codes in the vehicle but none throwing a check engine light. I think the battery died on the lot at some point and it was jump started and that was somehow preventing the modem from activating with error codes present. I’m going to put it on a charger now to just make sure it’s topped off but otherwise I think you’re ready to rock."

I'm not sure I'm buying this explanation given that the battery in this SUV rivals Tony Stark's Arc Reactor for power and during this Texas cold snap cranks this vehicle up with gusto even though it was 17° this morning. I think what happened is the guy who special ordered it last year and brought it back the next day as his 75-ish year old mind couldn't handle the complexity never had his connection purged from the system. My service guy said this was the first 2025 Explorer they received on the lot last August and that tracks with what I can now see in Pass when Alexa and other things went live. Whatever the case if it's working now I'm getting it back tomorrow and turning my sad little Escape Active loaner.
