New wheels … new issues

Purchased the Velgen VF9’s with Toyo Proxes STiii’s 305/40/22 and absolutely zero rubbing!

Here’s my issue. The 4wd Fault Service Required popped up on the dash and started throwing codes. I went to Ford and they said it’s because the overall diameter is larger and there is nothing they can do to reset it. I went in to Forscan and changed the tire circumference but the 4wd service won’t clear. Anyone dealt with this and has a fix?

I installed the same size tires with no issues or warning lights. But after I installed the FRP Tune I used the ProCal tool to change the tire size using the revolutions per mile. Well when I drove I got the same 4x4 warnings along with ABS/Stability warnings, so I returned the tire size back to stock and 'Reset' the 4wd module using the ProCal tool. I haven't had any problems since. Maybe you can 'Reset' the module with the Forscan?

I attempted to Reset with Forscan but no sure if I am doing it correctly. Hopefully someone has some pointers

How soon after the install of the new tires did the light show up?

Do you happen to know the actual height difference between the two?

The only way I could see larger, or smaller tires for that matter, cause issues is if the car checked the vehicle speed as seen by the wheel speed sensors with gps data or even transmission output shaft speed. I have seen where one tire has a larger, or smaller, diameter than the others and freaks out the 4wd module even though the tire size is the same. I've also seen a tire that has low air pressure cause this. Another thing to be checked is to see if the tires are actually spinning on the rim. I have seen tire installers use too much or not the proper lube and this happen. Take a crayon and place matching marks on the tire and wheel and take it out for a good spirited drive and then check to see if the marks still line up. What codes are you getting out of the ABS and AWD modules? Did the vehicle do anything funny prior to the lights coming on?

Cleared the 4wd issues with Forscan but now I’m getting “Service Advanctrac”

Educated guess here....I didn't think from your original post that your problem had anything to do with the tire diameter change. Unless you had significant differences (1/2" diameter) from front to rear, you shouldn't have seen anything from the AWD unit. Now that you're getting a slightly different, but still AWD related message, you need to pull the actual DTCs (if you're able).
Once you do that, you can look for info HERE.

Sometimes coincidence is weird. When I was younger, I once did an oil change on my manual transmission car. No big deal. Then went out for a ride. Everytime I got on it, the engine would rev, but it wouldn't take off. Long story short, the clutch had finally bit the dust. And yet, nothing seemed strange while I was driving it earlier. And no, the oil change did not contaminate the clutch. In hindsight, I realized I'd been babying it a bit since I knew an oil change was needed, so the clutch slippage just didn't show up. But I can't tell you how weird it was to me and how long I was scratching my head- I mean cause and effect, right?

The difference is 1” larger from stock and that is what caused the 4wd fault. Went to Ford and they confirmed. Cleared that fault by changing the tire diameter to 2520mm with Forscan.

I all the AWD related errors clear on the dash and no DTC’s repeated to the AWD, then upon the next startup, Service AdvancedTrac was on the dash. These were all different codes.

With apologies to your Ford 'service manager', and as @l1tech posted above, unless Ford is using GPS as a verification mechanism to check GPS speed against expected speed, there isn't a mechanical way for it to "sense" that you put larger tires on the vehicle. Think of the sensors- there are sensors for RPMs to both the trans output shaft to the rear diff and the half-shaft sensor for the front diff. The ECU also measures the RPMs of the wheel sensors (4). Regardless of the tire/wheel circumference, those would still be in lockstep.

Sure, your speedo would be off, but it shouldn't trigger other warnings unless the ECU is also checking against GPS. And since GPS is not perfectly accurate, and could even be unavailable at times, I doubt (I could be wrong) it would trigger those warnings. For example, I have yet to see anyone post about 4WD faults or AdvancTrak faults when there car is on a dyno. If the ECU was using GPS to measure speed as a backup, wouldn't a dyno generate an error?

In your first post, you wrote about 4WD codes- those would be associated with either output shaft differences front-to-rear, or wheel speed sensors front-to-rear. Nothing associated with tire sizing. You then cleared the codes to my understanding, so when I saw post #12, it makes me think that all that is happened is the code has shifted.

If the codes don't come back, congratulations. But I have a feeling it's more likely you have a sensor problem.

I'm no expert on this but I can't help but think that the change of tire diameter is causing the Advancetrac light. Advanetrac is expecting a certain RPM at a certain speed. Now it is different. After all it did show up after that change was made. That is why I think resetting it may clear it up. But I could be wrong. Easy enough to try.
