A couple of days ago I performed a remote start on my 2025 Explorer ST using the Ford Pass app on my phone. I'm retired and the vehicle can sit for days or a few weeks without being driven so I like to start it every so often. Yesterday I was going to run some errands and went out to put some items in the SUV and discovered the doors were locked. I didn't lock them and the mirrors were not folded in as they do when I lock the vehicle. I was able to unlock the car with the Pass app as I left the keys in the house. When I opened the door neither the instrument or center display showed any of the usual Explorer animations and were just black. I tried to remote start the ST with the Pass app again and it made a clicking noise and the horn beeped twice. I tried again with the same result. Finally I went back inside and retrieved the fob and tried to use the remote start on it without success. I then locked and unlocked the car with the fob and got back in and got the usual screen graphics and it started right up. I'm wondering if this is some kind of theft protection security measure after using remote start from the app or just a glitch? Has anyone else had this experience?

I have never had that behavior but I have had remote start not work due to a low battery. Also my remote start won’t work if the doors are not locked but I can always lock from the app. Do you recall ever getting a deep sleep message from the app? I get that if my ST sits for a couple weeks. When in deep sleep it shuts down energy consuming features including remote start. Also am able to remote start for my wife when we trade cars and she works 30 minutes away. Lastly, not sure if you can remote start twice in a row as I’ve never tried that. I use the extend option in the app to give me 30 minutes on the freezing cold days.

And thank you for your service!

I believe you can remote start 3 times in a row before it has you start it yourself.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've never gotten the "deep sleep" message but have read some other posts here about others who have; however I've only had the ST for a month so time will tell. This is only the second vehicle I've had with remote start, the last one was a problem plagued 2010 Buick Lacrosse. It worked inconsistently and for me it was more of a novelty item than a necessity so I rarely used it during the three years I owned the car and didn't miss it when I traded it in. Having the feature as part of the Ford Pass app is nice to have but something I won't use a lot.

When you remote start the ST, be sure that you have the key fob on you when you go to the vehicle or even better, just place the key fob in its holder inside the center console and keep it there.
