Ahhh... another oil thread, I have my popcorn. I personally run Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 but I'd never tell anyone that is the only (read best) oil to run. There are more than a handful of products that will be perfectly fine in the Exploder.

I change mine much more frequently than recommended even when running the EP and no one could tell me there is a better way. Pick a good filter and change your oil at an interval you are comfortable with. I send in an oil analysis yearly and have never found an issue in my engines. I'm too old to change my ways.

Motorcraft Semi-synthetic. 5w/30 in the Explorer, and 5w/20 in the F-150. Every 5000 miles. Motorcraft oil filters also.

Has anyone heard or used Schaeffer Oil?

https://www.schaefferoil.com/

I ask because I never heard of it but was talking to some Police Fleet Managers at a conference who run large PIU fleets and since switching to Schaeffer their oil analysis is coming back with almost no metal particles. They are extending oil change times and continue to have very clean oil when tested.

Im going to try it on my next change.

Oil technology has improved so much through the years you can get by with 5,000 mile changes, but you have to do what you're comfortable with.

Rotella T6 5W40, every 10,000 miles (use vehicle oil life indicator). Going to run T6 5W30 Multivehicle as soon as my stock is depleted.

Why use a blend when full synthetics are available?
BTW isn’t Rotella mostly for diesels?

I run 6.5qts (per recommendation of ZFG tuning) of Amsoil Signature Series 5W-30 plus their EA15K43 filter and change every 5000 miles. I also run Blackstone oil reports with every change. You can check out the blackstone thread for results. Everything is running fantastic so far.

Anecdotes are like opinions as in everyone has one, but my dad has a 800hp 12V Cummins with over 200k he has run nothing but Valvoline Premium Blue (per recommendation of Cummins) in for like 20 years. The Shaeffer reps have been hounding him for years to switch to their motor oil because they supply his ranch/dairy with all of its hydraulic oils and gear oils. He normally changes oil every 10k, but dipped a sample for Blackstone at only 5k and chrome, aluminum, and iron were all at higher ppms than his averages. I'm not a motor expert and from what I've heard some advanced synthetics with alot of detergents can "penetrate" more and so maybe the oil was cleaning out crevices that hadn't been cleaned out before and thats where the incease came from, but i know my dad went back to Valvoline and his numbers returned to normal.

it's really like picking your favorite ice cream flavor
if the oil is full synthetic and the correct weight, you're good to go

I personally use Kendall GT-1 full synthetic 5w-30

Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 is my choice and I go about 10K between changes. I go 15K between changes on my other car
