Oil change schedule

My first oil change I had done about 4,200 MI. I have looked at the manual and noticed that they recommend 7,500 to 10,000 mile in between oil changes. That seems a bit extreme to me.
On my other vehicles I have the oil changed every 4,000 miles or so including a tire rotation.
What are other members doing with regard to oil and filter change schedule?

I have around 22K miles on my ST. I've been doing Oil Changes every 5K miles.

But after reading up on the 10K miles suggested by Ford, I'm going to switch to that this year.

Just seems crazy to me. BMW tried that extended range as well if I remember reading correctly awhile back and that didn't turn to well for the owners. LOL.

May just randomly pick 6k and go with that for lack of any concrete knowledge.

I do full synthetic oil changes at 7500 mile intervals after my first change at 1000 miles. I do this with all of my cars and usually use Pennzoil Platinum or Mobil 1.

3500 mile intervals for oil change and tire rotations here. First change at 500 miles which is right now for me. I don’t know a ton about the 3.0’s durability just yet but I know both Gen’s of the 3.5 Eco’s. These engines benefit from frequent oil and filter changes. Most of what I’ve read on the 2.7’s suggest the same. These engines are kind of like the 2.7’s Big Brother.

Oil change intervals and which oil to run are a couple of those topics where there is no ONE correct answer. Find what works for you and be consistent with your practice. Most oils these days will go much farther than even a decade ago. That said, I personally don’t believe oil filters have made the same quantum leaps that oil has. In order for oil to do it’s job you must be able to keep the particulate matter out of it.

I’m thinking I’m going with 5K at first then see how I feel. Only 1.5K on her now.

I plan to wring the neck of this vehicle any and every chance i get. Mobil 1 full synthetic changes every 3500miles. I send my oil out for analysis with every change. If Blackstone decides to comment on my strategy, I will probably heed their advice.

I pretty much follow the Ford schedule, with the exception of the first oil change, which I had done at just over 1000 miles. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I've always changed the oil on a new engine like that.

I have inquired with the service manager about break in oil and he told me it's not necessary to change earlier than the recommended schedule. I've always changed oil at 4 to 5,000 mi and that's a tough habit to break. It's not a lot of coin in the end I'll probably just stick to 5 to 6000.

I paid for unlimited oil changes and rotation and washes so I go every 4 months/4K miles.

My dealer Sheehy talked me into it. It's called VIP and you get service loaners and some other perks too for about $1200. It turns out the loaner is for service of $250 or more which makes no sense on a brand new car with a warranty. So if i had it to do again I wouldn't have gotten it, Also the car washes are for when you make a service appointment.

I was brought up that oil changes were cheap "preventive maintenance", transmission as well. I always get trailer tow packages etc. even though I don't need it because I want the better cooling packages on stuff etc. Makes me feel better anyway... For a long time I always changed oil and filter at 3000 miles. Now I use Mobile 1 and the best filters I can buy and run 7500 miles. Never miss a beat and never had an issue. It took me a while to get over my "old habits" but I am good now lol.

I like 5k because it’s so easy to track without notes. 3s, or especially 7.5s are awkward, and 10 is too long for me. Full synthetic here...

Y'all should run oil analysis. $20 or whatever from blackstone. I think you'll be shocked at the results and how long you can run oil for. I basically don't run anything less than 10k miles anymore. My old man had an 07 dodge ram 2500 cummins and he ran an Amsoil bypass filter setup on it. He ran 15k miles towing a 14k lb trailer through colorado and blackstone told him he could have gone further... He couldn't believe it.

Im going to change at 2500 miles he shortly then at 10k I'll change again and run a blackstone and I predict I'll be able to run 10k or more intervals.

I’ve had oil analysis’ run before and have been pleased with the results. That said, why would I want to know how long an oil might go? Just not something I’m interested in wearing out.

definitely post your results in the Blackstone thread. It would be good to get a bigger sample size.

Factory recommended interval on our MB E350 4matic is 13k! And this from a company that loves to empty your pockets!

I will. It will be a year or so I guess. I'm not going to send the factory fill as it won't be a good indicator of my real oil choice.
