Unfortunately the 2020 fully optioned red ST with EVERYTHING I very recently purchased was rearended (not at fault)

Visual damage was moderate, we assumed the tow hitch and ball took most of the blow (50-60mph)

To no surprise, once they got it apart the damage was a lot worse and the rear frame rails are toast and theyre likely to just total it out.

ill be above water and profit, if / when they finalize and cut the check upon total loss.

i know the 21-24 years are de-contented as yall say. Is the 2025 enough of a leap top justify the price?

prior to the 20EXST i crossed shopped rs3's s6's, macan turbo, sq5/sq8, glc63amgs but they either had too little options for the cost or were too slow feeling for the cost.

Im a car guy, have a summer track car and race at the track often. I do 90% of my own work. I am not worried about maintenance in the slightest.

Im just wondering if it would make sense to sell the totaled 2020 and get a 25 or leave the platform all together. .
It is not damage in the sense of complete total loss, more in the realm of the cost to repair is not reasonable to the insurance company. If a new tailgate, bumpers and hitch were put on, you would not know it was rearended

last little bit, TUXMAT's for the explorer are amazing and im sad i only got 1 week of use out of them before the vehicle was hit.

Depends on what your complaints were about your 2020. The 2025 really only answers the main complaint of the older years, infotainment system. The better infotainment is really the only real improvement. No leather on the 2025 STs, horrible grey wheels, looks are up to debate, not tunable (my biggest gripe), and the 1-bolt rear subframe.

Bang for the buck I don’t think the early ST’s can be beat…if you liked yours and you come out good I’d look for another one and enjoy that one too. The 25’s fell off in the looks and seat departments to me…I just don’t like them.
I have a thing for GTI’s. We had one we loved that got totaled late last year…bought another one within a few days and never looked back.

Like you said, you're a car guy, so if plan on ever tuning the ST, stay away from the 25's they're locked and right now you can't tune them. All you can do to them for performance is charge tubes, CAI, intercooler, downpipes, and exhaust. The big power gains come from bigger turbos and bigger injectors, both require a tune. As for decontent on the 21-24's it got worse as the years progressed, best bet is another 20 or a 21. By now the original 3/36 is done on them so mod and tune away.

I have to agree with all this. As the years went by, more and more was deleted. We looked at a '25 and neither of us were happy with it. Personally, I think the '25 front end looks ugly and I don't like the rims. If I had known what I know now about the ST I would have gone with the '21 we first looked at. If I were in your position, I'd look for an early model with low miles. That way you could swap all your goodies over.

When my time is done with the 2020 ST, I will most likely get into a 2025+ ST. Can't wait for the new screen and infotainment mainly. Things they removed I can live without. They've kept what was important to me: 360* camera, intelligent cruise with lane centering, heated seats and steering wheel.

I'd buy a 25 if I were in the market but the wheels would not stay on it.

As a new '25 ST owner it's interesting to read a lot of folks here hate the rims. I think they look pretty good, even on my white SUV, but taste is a subjective thing. I considered a Toyota Grand Highlander but Toyota insists on putting Chrometec plastic wheel covers on their top trip vehicles. If you curb those things there's no fixing them. Other makers use them too but that's a deal breaker for me. I'm old and boring so these rims will work for me but I like to see some of the creative changes you other ST owners make.

I'm with you on the wheels. I'm not a fan of 7 spoke wheels that only have 5 lugs, it just looks stupid. the spokes should always be multiples of how many lug holes it has. Plus all black wheels are over used and just played out. If I could find someone willing to trade the 25 wheels for my 20-24 wheels, i would switch them in a heartbeat

One of the things I like about the 25s are the wheels. Not a fan of gloss black.

I’m sure many people would trade you in a heartbeat. Just post it on any ST FB group or even around here.

Just different tastes, I will say from a detailing perspective, I like grey better, black is so hard to take care of.
