All,
I recently started getting the P-0455 - Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) system, gross leak.

I am dropping it off Monday but i wanted to see what everyone else's outcome has been with this CEL and dealerships?

I tried cleaning the filler area myself and the inner seal was a little dirty but nothing that would make me think that was the issue.

I do have a hard start from time to time as well just to add info.

Thanks!

I wouldn't doubt if its the evap purge valve. There's other threads with other codes this thing can cause.

Purge valves have issues
And if the evap canister got flooded with fuel vice vapors. It takes awhile to purge out
Running till near empty
Hot day, pumping cold fuel in a high rate, can cause an issue and over filling...can easily cause fuel vice vapors to get in canister
Iirc. On other vehicles
Coasting , no throttle in gear at mid level rpm will force a purge ..but nor sure about the explorer ...

Like others stated its probably the purge valve, I just replaced mine a few days ago, little pain in the ass to do but not too bad.
