With 3,179 views and 100 people chiming in, the total number of reported rear axle bolt breaks on this forum remains at 1 (1%). Not bad.

Anyone else see the post on FB with someone who recently fractured WITH a dif stiffy? I cant find the post anymore and i dont think he mentioned how it happened.....

I did not see that post. But I do question the validity of many things on Facebook. It seems like all the nuts on on there.

Not sure how to share posts.....been avoiding social media lately. Image attached.... he also mentioned that Ford denied his warranty because of the brace and downpipes.

I have written about that product several times. It is NOT a viable solution. It has no possible way of protecting against the differential rotation, since it's not designed correctly. The other vendor's product is far better.

On a second note, statistically speaking, when you actually have about 270 answers from ST owners, then this poll will be viable.

I'm assuming you're referring to the AWR Racing Diff Brace? That's what I ordered, just waiting for it to ship this week/month. To me, it looks like a far superior build but who knows how it'll hold up too. I just never understood how a little plate like the Diffy Stiffy would hold the rear diff in place under extreme stress. Sure enough the guy who posted his rear end with it bent to hell reassured my thoughts exactly.

At least 50+ hard launches on asphalt and prepped/unprepped tracks. No issues so far. Time will tell if this design holds up better. I'm not an engineer by any stretch, but the AWR brace looks and feels "substantial" and that it's engineered to withstand the rotational force. I'm sure there are other experts in engineering that could expand on my opinion with legitimate facts, just providing you all with real time feedback.

I mean, I'm no engineer either but the AWR brace looks very heavy duty compared to the Diffy Stiffy.

How about 287? Or 384? Or maybe just 162? Arbitrary numbers are just that, arbitrary.

And statistically speaking, this poll's reported % of breaks (0.98%) grossly exaggerates FORD's much smaller number that they reported (0.1%).

That number is not arbitrary! You obviously have never taken a statistics class. There are formulae that predict a population size to give estimates with 95% confidence interval which is considered significant. If you take the estimate of 20% of explorers are STs, that works out to a population size of 270 to get within a statistically significant 5% of probability with 95% confidence.. So even if you get to 270 responses of STs, you're statistically only within 5% accuracy. You'd need far more responses to narrow that down.

I'm not responsible for non-votes, just those that actually took the time to participate.

Regardless, this poll points to an extremely small number of breaks, paralleling FORD's confirmed statistical data (except our poll reads too high a % of breaks).

Those with failures, what's the build date of their ST? Curious if they failures occur in a short production run.
FORD's build dates of effected vehicles seems to encompass each full model year since the redesigned Explorer was produced (2020/2021/2022).

Still, FORD's official tally of ~250 breaks out of 250,000 remains an incredibly low 0.1%.
