I have a 2020 ST, only the driver door handle works for locking and unlocking with touch. It used to be all door handles worked for locking and unlocking. Did I change a setting to cause this?

My driver side rear door doesn't always like to unlock when I touch it. I have to reach forward to the driver door to unlock the doors and then open the rear door after. I am bringing my vehicle in to the dealership for a few other small things, I might add this to the list. It's not very repeatable so I'm sure they will tell me I'm crazy and everything seems 'fine' to them.

I know this isn't the answer to your question, but did want to see if you are unlocking with the keypad and keeping your keys in the console? This works great, never have to look for keys. There also may be a setting that can be changed to indicate that you want to only unlock the driver's door or all the doors at once.

This problem with my door handle lock and unlock has been like this for probably a year. It's not the weather, thanks for your reply.

Thanks, but I never use the keypad, and would never leave my keys inside. I heard that some cars may drain their battery when in close proximity to the key fob because of constant communication.

ive noticed more of the issues and that seems to happed with the weather changing and getting colder it is not as responsive. I did notice my keypad not being as responsive as well even in warmer weather but not sure if they have to do with each other.

I think Ford did get this right, although I have had other issues. Anyways, my keys have been in the center console for 2 years with no problems so far. My brother in law converted me, so I feel the need to convert everyone else.

My 2020 ST started doing the exact same thing today. I checked the settings and all the doors should open to the touch. Do Ford engineers ever weigh in on this forum? I've got to say, I'm a long time Ford owner, but this may be my last purchase. Too many small things aren't working anymore.

My 22 allows me to open any door with the fob on me and putting my hand inside the door handle space, and all doors have the LOCK indent on the side of the handle to tap and lock the truck from any handle. I think there IS a setting in the info system that makes it so the driver door is the only door to do this. since multiple 20's on here noticed theirs started doing this, was there an update that just installed on your vehicles that reset this setting maybe?

I know for my vehicle, something is not working right but only at times so of course it's hard to get it fixed. I can touch my rear driver side door and it won't unlock. Walk to passenger rear door and it will unlock. Then lock the car again, touch the driver rear door and it will unlock that time. It'll work fine for a few days and then stop working again.

Although I have not touched mine, would this have anything to do with the locking on the outside or just a child lock for the inside?

I don't know how it is for the Explorer as mine is a '22 and only 2 months old, but with my C7, it is VERY picky about the battery in the remote to operate properly or being "out of range" when your right next to it. For my C7, with the CR2032 battery goes down from 3v to like 2.7 or so, litterally bearly used, it starts acting up.

I would suggest replace the battery in your remote with a brand new, real name brand (Duracell/Energizer) battery, not a "cheap" (rayovac/Amazon/Kirkland (yes, kirkland might be a great battery, but sometimes these remotes can be very picky)/etc..) battery. If you have a 2020 or 2021 and haven't changed your battery ever in your remote, that would be my recommendation.

I was having the same issue with my '20. I changed the battery and it solved this problem.

What battery did you replace? The key fob battery?

I replaced the battery in the vehicle. I replaced the fob battery first, but that didn't fix the issue.

TakeMyMoneyST, you are correct about the battery under the hood. I had multiple electrical issues that were corrected when the Ford Dealership replaced my battery. I hope the new battery lasts longer than 2 years. It was covered under warranty. I'm about to turn over to 27,000 miles after 3 years and my lease is up next month. Planning to buy out the lease since the vehicle is worth about 30% more than the buy out price.

My 2020 had this and it was the main reason for my buyback. It took over 90 days at the dealership to fix. Four different times they said it was fixed and I would go to pick it up and none of the passenger doors would lock/unlock. They finally replaced the BCM.

This now just started on my 2021 three days ago that I've had for 20 months.

I ordered a battery tender to hook up to the battery when I'm parked in the garage to keep the battery strong. After reading about so many problems with a weak battery, these Explorers just can't keep the battery voltage high enough especially if you just make short trips.
