Hi All,

Brand new to the forum. I’ve been a long time Explorer owner but first time ST after my last got totaled. Decided to dip in on a used 2020.. I’m in the explore phase of the vehicle because I bought it from a dealer and not the original owner. There’s some mods, etc. but the auto stop start is stumping me. From all my research it was standard. It has the button to disable but that button doesn’t react or light up. The in dash screen menu for the auto stop start is blank and the dash doesn’t show the A etc.. It sounds like I lucked out because many people disable it anyways but I love solving puzzles and this will kill me if I never figure it out. It’s clearly not activating and nothing reacts - was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction.

Odd that it doesn't light up. Figured someone just installed an eliminator already. You will get a notice on the dash when you start the car. It will pop up saying that the ASS has been disabled. If its not showing up at all maybe someone did something more permanent to turn it off.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it may have been the eliminator but didn’t find it. And the fact that the light doesn’t stay on the button to turn off (I saw it just holds the memory and stays on). Other thought was someone using a tool like Forscan? But not sure how the car reacts when that is used and if it’s something I can find out without buying that tool.

It sounds like someone started pulling fuses or wires to disable the auto start stop. Welcome!

I don’t think Forscan could completely disable the fact that it doesn’t show up on the cluster that it is turned off or no light on the button.

It can be “turned off” in aftermarket tunes like you see.

I’m new to this concept. Do I buy a tool to see this or find a company that tunes? Appreciate the help.

Three different ways to turn off auto start stop. Turn off with Forscan, certain device, or have your aftermarket tuner turn it off.

Yours is likely already “off” per your observations. If you don't know and/or don't have the original device, the ECU must be removed and sent to a tuner for unlock, if they(?) can do it.

Not following your thought
It only shows an icon on dash in sport mode
And does illuminated switch on center console only in sport..bot sure why
All other modes it's not on the ip or illuminated

I’m talking about @Johnbandits problem where it doesn’t light up at all anytime.

Could be you still have a weak original battery, in which case it will not turn on.
