Rear Brakes Caliper Replace

I have the rear performance brake caliper that I bought 2 years ago. Time for a brake job.

What do I need to do to replace the rear caliper?

Brake service mode:

1 : Set the ignition to ON.

2 : Release the EPB.

3 Press and hold the accelerator pedal and place the EPB switch to the RELEASE (downward) position. Continue to hold the accelerator pedal and EPB switch.

4 : Set the ignition to OFF then set the ignition to ON within 5 seconds. Continue to hold the accelerator pedal and the EPB switch.

5 : Set the ignition to OFF then release the accelerator pedal and EPB switch.
NOTE: The brake system will be deactivated, preventing brake application until service has been completed and service mode has been deactivated. The yellow EPB indicator will be illuminated and Maintenance Mode will display on the message center.
NOTE: When replacing brake pads in service mode, the brake caliper piston must be compressed into the caliper housing. The brake caliper piston does not have to be rotated while compressing the piston.

What a BS process. I don't know if other automakers are doing this shit but I sure hope not..

Yes it’s becoming a common practice for cars with EPB. It retracts the pistons and once taken out of that mode it sets the pad height for proper EPB function. That’s why you don’t just unplug the battery like some will tell you.

It would be convenient if they had just added an easy button to turn it off such as maybe a maintenance mode button, etc. rather than such a process. On the flip side, having to do this should be on the rare side.

There’s always button sequences built into cars to do things without having to add another button. Resetting the auto windows…resetting the head unit, etc.

With advancements in technology it becomes more complicated to work on things. At least they made a process for you to be able to do this yourself. I imagine that soon you will have to bring it somewhere to get it done. I changed the front wheel bearings on my F250 and couldn't get the ABS light to go out. Tried everything with FORScan and even pulled the battery cable overnight but it still wouldn't go out. I had to bring it in and they told me they had to reset the ABS unit so it would see the new hubs. BS!
