So I thought id post up my experience with getting the dealer to pay for and install the rear climate controls, here is my story:
After reading about folks on here getting their own climate controls for the rear passengers on their own i decided to go ahead and follow suit and purchase my own as others have and install it. When I first called around I was looking for part number LB5Z-19980-G and was told there was little stock available at my local dealers but that in network there were some available at dealers in AZ and parts of NV. When I called around to those dealers they stated that their LB5Z-19980-G part was only showing 1 (which was just a placemarker and wasnt real) or that they had them but were being reserved for incoming inventory. After chatting with a random dealer in UT he had mentioned that it looked like the part number had changed from LB5Z-19980-G to LB5Z-19980-H and that there was a bunch in Ontario California. He suggested that I call my local dealer to see if they could order the part that way I wouldnt have to pay for additional shipping. When I called my local dealer and stated that I wanted to order the part LB5Z-19980-H he was like "didnt you just call about this part?" I said yeah but I had found a different part number that ended in an H not the G. He was surpised in the difference of the 2 part numbers but shortly confirmed that, yep there are 10+ sitting down south that he could order. the part was going to cost me just under $100 and would be available in a few days.
I got a call about a week later and he stated that the part wasnt delivered and realized I was waiting on it when they were going through some invoices and found that the warehouse had rejected the order since they needed the VIN in order to order the part. I thought that was odd, but whatever, I gave them my VIN and got a call several days later that the part was in. When I went to go pick it up I thought that I might go check with service and see about maybe getting the dealer to foot the bill instead. When walking into chat with the service advisor they had ZERO idea what I was talking about and told me that I should check with my sales person. I tracked down my saleswoman and brought up the whole "Ford is supposed to install these etc...". She then took me to talk to the service manager asking him how they would go about installing this and he had no idea what to do. The service manager told me that he would call me back and let me know how they could get this worked out and he did later that day telling me to set up a service appointment and that they "would get it worked out".
I brought my vehicle in today and was able to get my refund for the part I paid for and they used that part to install into my car at no charge. So for those of you waiting to get your rear controls you may want to try this route as I was able to get mine installed free of charge and I didnt have to wait for some sort of TSB or communication from Ford.
