I have a brand new 2021 explorer ST. It is 3 weeks old and has already been to the dealer service department 2x. For reasons no one can figure put when anyone of the doors is closed, intermittently the rear lift gate will open by itself. Dealer thought it was the battery as it tested at only 63%. Just happened again tonight after battery swap. Dealer has no idea what else to try and bis waiting for help from Ford. Meanwhile I am not comfortable traveling with it as I never know when this will happen. All of the instances when this happens seems directly tied to closing a door. Not sure its related but also a problem with keyless entry keypad. When the car sits for several days the keypad will not light up or work no mater how many buttons are pushed. Have to get in with fob and start car, then keypad will work. HELP

Hey there. I am having something similar happen. My liftgate is triggering my alarm on its own and I get the alert via the Ford Pass app. I attempt to open the lift gate and it doesnt open. I had to manually force it open and then it wont close. Then it triggers the alarm and its open. No clue what is going on just recently started. Ive had my ST since June of this year. Its a 2020 model.

The keyless entry pad works when it wants to on mine. I have to push it like 20xs just to finally get it to light up. I love my vehicle but the quirks are rather annoying.

I had problems with my foot lift trunk system and trunk release button. It traced out to be the foot sensor itself that needed replacing.

As for the key pad, use the palm of your hand down the key pad before punching your numbers in. That usually works for me.

My 2021 ST build date 6/2021 also has this intermittent liftgate issue. My dealer said they sent something to Ford about it back in October and still to my knowledge, have not heard a response. Did you get any answers?

I have the same issue, thought the fob button was being pressed accidently in my back pack. If you use the button on the lift gate to close it will open up again. I have been pressing the fob twice and it closes and stays closed.

A new one today: I placed my hand behind the driver door handle to unlock the doors (didn’t actually open the door) and the lift gate opened all by itself for the first time in a while. What the heck!

That's a new one! That would piss me off if it happened when in my garage with the garage door closed!
