Rear Muffler Heat Shields

I installed SPD down pipes with the flex pipes built in and a Corsa exhaust. It seems there is a little drone plus a tingy sound when I step on it. Does anyone take off the rear heat shields or just leave them on? Also was thinking of sound insulating the trunk area and lift gate. Any thoughts or ideas?

My guess it’s more the corsa exhaust than the downpipes. My SPD’s definitely upped the loudness a tad but it’s not a bad sound by any stretch. Having said that, I also had the DPs ceramic coated for heat rejection and the whole interior covered in sound deadening material. I’m running the Thermal 2.5. I personally have never been a fan of the sound of Corsa catbacks.

Corsa cat backs have a tendency to drone and have an odd sound IMO. What type of tingy sound? Is it tinny?

It sounds like the heat shields rattling but they all screws are tightened.

Tinny like the heat shields.
I would say close but hard to say. It’s not a vibration like sound out of corsa but I find there to be a tinny like sound. If hitting the heat shields doesn’t produce any unusual sounds I doubt they are the problem. But just guessing.

Corsa doesn't have rear mufflers so I'm wondering if taking off the rear heat shields would cause a problem in the long run?

I doubt it. You could always remove them for a bit and see if the sound changes. Also don’t think the mufflers get hot enough to hurt anything above so long as you have a decent gap between the muffler and the floor. I would think a couple inches would be enough.

Check that, just saw no back mufflers. No problem with straight pipe and no heat shields. If worried, go for a romp and feel how hot it gets.

It shouldn’t cause any problems. Corsa’s system has the muffler in place of where the OE resonator was.
