Has anyone been following the right to repair movement happening in this country? I know a bit about the John Deere situation but how might these laws end up affecting common folk? TIA

I watch a guy on Youtube, Louis something. He does Apple repair, but is a HUGE right to repair advocate.

Unless you want cars to move towards a subscription model like everything else (I'm looking at you Volvo...) then ABSOLUTELY support this initiative wherever you can and sign whatever ballot initiative you can.

If you thought Tesla making autopilot a "service" and BMW making Apple Car Play a subscription was shady, those moves dont even compare to the BS that Caterpillar and John Deer pull regularly. The right to repair your own stuff that YOU bought is a must for anything mechanical and also anything software as well in my opinon but that can be a little more of a gray area because its hard to "fix" software unless you really want to get into the weeds.

Fundamentally this will put independent shops out of business unless they can fork over the absurd sums that OEMs will charge for their diagnostic equipement and the monthly subscription fee that the OEMs will charge to even run said equipment.
