Roof rail delete

Has anyone removed their roof rails and installed the delete parts? Just wondering how much of a job this would be and the cost.

Note that this was very early on and before I knew there was a different retainer for the delete parts that’s longer and utilizes the 3 holes I mention in that post. I’ve since added the correct retainer. So…there are 4 parts required. Both delete panels and both retainers.

Only about $400 back then for everything. I hear they’re a lot more now. Most people jump on the FB groups and look for someone to swap parts with in their area.

I am looking into this now. Rails are about $250 each, and the retainers are $25 each. I have the PNs saved somewhere, will be ordering shortly.

Im looking into doing this myself. I think i've found the correct part numbers for the retainers and the plastic trim pieces for each side to delete the rails, but I would be interested to see what part numbers you have to see if i have the same.

Edit: The part numbers previously listed for the retainers were what my dealer ordered for mine (still pending install) but sadly were found to be incorrect. DO NOT ORDER THOSE! I'll see if I can get accurate part numbers and will post them once verified. I'm sorry.

Just to let you guys know the right side is discontinued as of two weeks ago. My dealer did a nationwide search and found a few in stock at a few dealers but they are about 420 bones for that side if you want it.

well that's embarrassing! I'm sorry for providing bad information. That's what the dealer ordered for mine. Still waiting for some other back ordered parts before they'll do mine. Sorry man! I'll make it right for you.

I went ahead and did the rail delete today despite only having the rails. You can do it without those other two parts; however, I do see some issues that could arise by not using them, but we'll see. With that being said, like others, I used some butyl tape to cover the holes and then added 3-4 long layers on top of that so the rail will sit flush on the tape. Seems to work perfectly for now.

It looks daunting labor wise, but trust me it's not that bad of a job. Make sure you get an interior pry bar set! I did one side at a time, dropped the visor, the center console/sunglass holder, clothes hooks, dome lights, pulled back the A/B/C/D pillars, B is the hardest as it is held on with the grab handle (10mm bolts) and another 8mm bolt. After doing that on the left side I was able to pull the head liner down enough to get my hands and a socket wrench on the nuts. First side took about 1.5 hours to figure everything out and remove and install the new rail, the second side only took 30 minutes.

I would recommend getting the two insert pieces but if you don't want to wait or can't find them a good butyl tape will suffice for now. When I'm able to find them I'll install them on mine though. All in all it was definitely worth the time and effort. If anyone needs help DM me and I'll try to walk you through it.

Absolutely. I did the rail delete and also put full Thermal RD exhaust on today. By far my favorite mods to date.
